I got an iPhone 4 from an uncle of mine that returned from UK. He couldn't use it in Portugal so I gladly took it 🙂
Now I'm in The Netherlands and I'm trying to unlock it tu use it as a phone. Unfortunately I cannot contact Orange in anyway or even find out how to unlock the phone without being a (long term) costumer.
Does anybody know how to do it?

Only the carrier an iPhone was sold as carrier locked with can unlock the iPhone - or send the unlock request to Apple on the owner's behalf. You or your Uncle must contact Orange.
Has your uncle tried contacting them as some of the UK carriers will only do it for the original contract holder.
I'm not really close to my uncle and plus I am outside of Portugal (where he is).
I was trying to contact with Orange but there is no contacts or whatsoever.
Is that a wait to pay for the unlock not being in UK or Orange costumer?
Not sure what Orange charges for this, but you must contact Orange.
And BS about not being able to contact Orange. Are you saying as a cellular provider, Orange has no way to contact them whatsoever?
Well, I forgot to say that (because I'm outside of UK) I was trying to contact Orange by email.
In the website they say it's 20£ to unlock the phone.
So what's wrong with that, basically it is now between you and Orange as your story keeps changing.
What I want to know before I do a rather long call distance to UK is if there's any chance that it might work and all the money I spent won't be in vein.
Orange does not provide any email for support so this is my only option. I was trying to see if anybody had the same problem as I have and successfully got through.
You will not be able to have the phone unlocked unless you are a customer. Your uncle may be able to have them unlock it depending on whether he was pay as you go or monthly and assuming his account was/is paid in full.
From the Orange site:
All Orange phones are locked so that they can only be used on the Orange network.
You can have any handset unlocked to use on any compatible network. Once a handset has been unlocked it can be used with an Orange SIM and/or any other compatible network SIM.
