Nov 15, 2011 10:04 PM in response to jaswyoungby MADianne,HURRAY - just downloaded the update and no more robots! FYI it only affected playing iTunes on my computer, I could sync with my iPod and play from that fine. This took a (seemingly) long time to fix, but I'm glad I didn't have to uninstall and rebuild my library - such a pain.

Nov 15, 2011 10:12 PM in response to grahamfromnorth wilkesboroby Maj.,I think the fact that 10.5 didn't use quicktime had a lot to do with the glitch. Glad it was fixed.

Nov 16, 2011 2:42 AM in response to Maj.by MacMan96,Possibly not completely fixed in my case.
Is anyone now experiencing the stuttering of ALL their music files after the iTunes 10.5.1.42 current update like I am?
While I agree that removing the dependence on Quicktime probably had something to do with the robot sound glitch, now I have a whole new issue apparently tied to this.
Under iTunes 10.4.1 our MP3 and AAC files purchased thru iTunes played properly.
Under iTunes 10.5 our MP3 files had the robot sound playback but the AAC files purchased thru iTunes continued to play properly.
Now frustratingly under iTunes 10.5.1 without Quicktime installed, our MP3 files no longer have the robot sound issue BUT now both our MP3 files AND our AAC files purchased thru iTunes stutter and pop when played back.
Ironically, when I open one of my test MP3 files in Windows Media Player 11 it of course plays smooth as glass without stuttering.
Clearly my situation is a case of one step forward and two steps back when it comes to both released versions of iTunes 10.5 and 10.5.1.
My Windows XP Home PC with an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM clearly meets the iTunes system requirements.
This reprogramming of the iTunes software to eliminate the dependence on Quicktime has sure seemed to have led to some bugs in the decoding process now.
Has anyone else seen this?

Nov 16, 2011 7:54 AM in response to MacMan96by MacMan96,Update:
In an earlier post from this morning I tested the iTunes 10.5.1 update robot sound fix WITHOUT QuickTime installed but experienced stuttering playback.
Since then, I decided to try installing the new version of QuickTime 7.7.1. Now my playback is back to normal across all file types WITH QuickTime installed alongside iTunes.
Coincidence? Who knows at this point. But it adds to the possibility that iTunes has gone through some growing pains in trying to move away from it's dependence on QuickTime for decoding.

Nov 16, 2011 12:18 PM in response to MacMan96by Maj.,10.5 doesn't use quicktime. I believe this was a big part of the original problem...Maybe 10.5.1 uses quicktime, I don't know. A little bit of stuttering with songs, but it's minor. I'm sure there will be a newer update to fix the stuttering issue...

Dec 2, 2011 7:30 AM in response to grahamfromnorth wilkesboroby Keef1,I am on XP. Installing 10.5 has been a disaster. My pc no longer works at all. Everything freezes . I am at a complete loss as to what to do. I used to think Apple were great. Now I think they don't care as much as other companies don't. Still, if I can't play, no point buying.
I won't be buying. Hope it hurts Apple as much as they have hurt me.

Have you tried updateing to the 10.5.1 whatever? Most people (like me) who had the disaster with 10.5 seem to have found the issue to be fixed with the update. It took a seemingly long time (in customer terms) but in fact in industry terms it probably was a quick response. I waited for the update becasue it's such a pain to rebuild my library the way I like it, and I'm glad I did - the update did the trick!
Hope this helps
