Updated to iTunes 10.5 today and now my Audio Playback IS TERRIBLE!!! HELP!!!!

Same problem windows 7 imported cd's play fine but all downloaded content sounds terrible

I have had this problem on Windows 7 (64-bit) since a couple of updates ago!!!

Happens on all CD's I import and is now affecting all MP3's purchased and put on there, some tracks are ok mild distortion here and there but others are like listening to static on a CB Radio..

God **** it, any solutions people?

I have the same problem, my itunes has installed right and the data/music/videos sync and play find on my iPhone and iPod but play terrible on my PC. Running windows 7. I did notice a m4a file playing fine via iTunes though! 😠

The files are corrupted on the iPhone 4 as well.

I've re-installed iTunes and restored phone but still it keeps happening!

On my phone and ipod things are working fine, just on itunes!

Long time XP box using iTunes worked great for years. iTunes 10.5...no more! After update I hear what sounds like digital noise versions of the songs. None of my library plays normally. At first I thought it was my sound card driver but when I stream thru the Airport Express, same noise - not a sound card dependent process. There is a problem with the update. We can only hope Apple fixes it soon (and that they care about a few remnant Win XP users like you and me). iTunes 10.5 works fine on my 2 IMacs and 1 MacBook Pro. I have not updated my iPad to iOS 5 out of fear... Can you blame me. I need it for work!

Its mp3 files... check any m4a files you have bought through iTunes and they will more than likely sound perfectly fine. I do not know what the heck 10.5 did that wont allow mp3's to play, but I am currently converting all my mp3's to m4a's through a shareware program - which is a pain in the butt! / but they work now. 😠

OMG I have the same problem to and I am on Windows XP!!! I updated iTunes to 10.5 on my brothers computer (Win 7) and his audio works fine but mine doesn't. Same with my iPod Touch some audio files are crappy which weren't before. This is very frustaiting.. At least I am not the only one..

I'm using WinXP Pro SP3, x86 and have the same Problems but only in iTunes.

To convert all my tracks into m4a or sth. else can't be the reason.

I Think Apple changes something at the mp3-encoder, but why? With iTunes 10.4.x and early everything works fine...

If anyone finds a fix to this problem please post it!!

I found something interesting. I installed iTunes 10.5 on four computers. The computers affected by this issue have VIA sound controllers. Does anyone else have a VIA audio controller?

Please fix this. My MP3's sound like a doorbell with a dying battery.

I installed 10.5 on 2 different XP computers, one at home, which is not working. The other is at work -ups, this one is working just fine, both are 8-10 year old, both have SP3. Why iTunes works on only one is a mystery. I did uninstalled and installed back again with no luck.

Are you guys in Apple doing this in purpouse now that Jobs is gone??? Getting lousy again?

Please fix this issue and prove that you can you a better job.

Sounds like you could be on to something with the VIA connection. I have an old desktop with a VIA chipset (AC97 audio) and I have the same problem you're describing. XP SP3 as well. It's just my VBR mp3s; apple lossless that I ripped myself with qaac plays just fine. Quicktime and foobar2000 are working fine, too.
