Do you have one device of each? If you do and if you are the only one using these devices, you can just create an apple itunes account and your icloud account will be the same ID but when you create a apple itunes account, make sure it's an existing email address because when I got the first iphone that came out, I created an apple itunes account that is a email address but the email address never existed until I had a problem with an app and the app developer sent a email to that apple ID email address lol Mistake I made..I dont know why apple doesn't confirm if it's an existing email address or not... but also make sure that when you create this..this is the one you will stick with for the rest of your life or until you stop buying apple products because apple does not merge two apple itunes account if you have two so whatever apps or music you buy will only be on that ONE apple itunes account. if you create a new one, you WILL NOT be able to move these to your new account. You can have multiple apple itunes account though but the apps and other stuff u have will not be on them, it will be separate.

Now...if you are going to buy a second iphone or ipad or any apple device to use for different purposes, like one for work and one for home and you don't want the same contacts and calender events on each device then this is when you would create a icloud account that is different from your apple itunes account

and now.... since you are new to apple...which I still am even from buying the first iphone... when you sync with a usb ...MAKE SURE ALL YOUR PICTURES ARE SAVED SOMEWHERE because itunes/icloud only syncs pictures that you take with your iphone...not pictures that you added from digital camera.... if you sync with usb to itunes...make sure you CLICK ON PHOTOS TAB and check off the boxes for the pictures to sync...OR iphotos will automatically pop up and you can save them  there but also save them somewhere else on a usb device because after the ios5 update, I lost all my pictures. I'm so upset.

wow.. i think you actually just made it more confusing towards the last part about the photos. which made me puzzled as to why you posted the question that followed - because in your current reply you made it (iCloud and ID's) seem like you knew it all too well.

yes, I only use "official" mail. yep, definitely aware of the Syncing process of Photos using usb cables and how iTunes can "wipe" away the data from your phone if you wrongly check certain boxes.

I understand it's advice and i appreciate it , just that it's a little off topic from what I was asking. (Not that you have to answer my query or anything).

I am very much clear about having 2 ID's if I had 2 different iDevices . But what I was getting at was for a single iDevice.

My initial enquiry was about Advantages/Disadvantages of having 2 ID's used within the Same Device. Whether it would be beneficial in some way or why some people might do this? (because I am contemplating this and want to hear from others who have tried/understand/do it this way)

    Lol..

you mean the post of mine that you tried to answer has confused you?

    The post where you said...

Simply make sure your husband keeps the Apple ID password and username/email so he can continue using that Apple ID.

If you still need the apps etc, then tap 'Keep on iPhone'. If you don't then remove - you can still get back the Data stored using that particular Apple ID/iCloud sign-in, but only via that Apple ID.

*My advice: 'Keep on iPhone' - just to be safe since we're still new with iCloud.

Nx you can proceed to create a new iCloud account, which will require you to create another Apple ID. but as usual, you won't be able to "transfer" any apps from your current ID to the new one.

    Cheers

I just updated iPad, and iPhone to iOS5.   I synced these devices with my iMac on iCloud.  Calendars and contacts synced just fine.   However for some strange reason I can no longer sync any music on my 32 GB iPhone.  iTunes is telling me that I am beyond the phone's capacity with an "Other" item that is nearly as large as my 23 GB music collection.  Am I missing something here?  It was just fine until I made the move to iOS5.  I wonder if Apple is busy trying to fix all the problems they have now created with this new iOS.  I knew I should have waited until the next update.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've discovered that some things:  Specifically Calendars and Documents that are shared on iCloud cannot be kept.  If you change the iCloud account, it will delete all of your calendars in iCal (even ones you had prior to ever joining iCloud).  I've lost everything.    I believe I can get it back by signing in with the old iCloud account, copying all of the data, and then signing out and back in with my new iCloud and manually entering all of the data again... Ugh.  This whole process is awful.

If I delete the iCloud account on my wife's iphone (her iphone has my Apple ID), will she loose all her pictures and songs stored at the iphone? I forgot to mention that I would like to add her Apple ID to her iPhone.

I was able to change the account on her phone but first I had to turn off all streaming accounts like photos, calendar, etc... then deleted the iCloud account before being able to add her iCloud account. I was able to do it without loosing any information stored on her phone. It took me a while though...

    It is done now.

I was able to change the Apple ID in the iCloud setting by first deleting the iCloud account under "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".  Once deleted, I just added a new account using my Apple ID.

    -->>

When you press Delete it will ask if you like to keep your files in the Iphone. Press on keep ..

Then delete account and make a new one.

    Worked !!

I have set up a new apple id and password. However, my phone still has the old apple ID on it and when I try to delete the account I cant because I've forgotten my password for the old apple ID. I can't remember the answers to the security questions either so can't change the password. Any ideas please?

Doesn't work for me. I try to select delete account but it keeps asking me for my password on my old Apple id which doesn't exist anymore. And I can't reset the password because the ID doesn't exist anymore. So I am going round in circles :-(

When i go to delete the account it is still asking for my apple ID password.  The reason I don't have a password is the original email entered in ICloud I NO LONGER HAVE.  The account doesn't exist anymore and I haven't had it in three years and can't remember the password. So, now that I got the new Iphone 5s and am trying to get my stuff on it, I can't do anything without that originial password.  I need to change my Icloud account, but without entering in the old password at some point I can't seem to do anything...

    I need help please.
