NO WHERE did I read multigestures would NOT be available for iPad 1 users and I am regrettably sorry I went thru the trouble of updating.  I am NOT about to spend ANOTHER $500 to get a feature which should have been included in this "major" update.

This truly makes me reconsider buying iPhone 4S.  Apple doesn't deserve any more of my money for such a "genuis" decision.

Sad! too bad Apple, you have betrayed your original ipad users, the ones that believed you first with that tablet too bad Apple. Only money matters right?

I was shocked when I found out it doesn't work on my iPad (1st gen)..

Just filed a bug report and I really hope they patch this in a future update because I was addicted to the feature!!!

    Still can't believe it..

Apple should really ad this multitouch gestures to ipad 1. without this the ipad ist nearly unuseable, because by the time you get used to these gestures the only use for the home button is to start the ipad. the use of the ipad ist really uncomfortable without the gestures, so apple ad this feature to the ipad 1 immediately!

For years I have been an apple user, back since the quadra's. I have always been very happy with their products, but not anymore! I have a 64Gb 3G iPad, which cost me almost £800 less than a year ago only to be robbed of this feature that is clearly advertised as being available on the iPad, not just iPad 2!

    It's a shame !

Apple you really suck with this, this is stupid and does obviously annoy everyone !

Get these multitouch feature back as soon as possible ! Thancks !

    This is really ******* !

    shame on you  !

Yes, please bring the MTG for iPad 3G...

In the past it was working if you enabled the device as "development device".

    But since iOS5... it´s gone.

Please bring this feature also for iPad (1st Gen), the hardware requirements for this feature are already fulfilled.

    Thanks, Jo

I have just submitted this bug report:

"Well, what have you done?! A quick look at the blogs, twitter, social media and just about everywhere will show you how furious everyone is that multi-touch gestures were removed from iPad 1.

More so people are infuriated that this wasn't clearly stated prior to launch of the OS. Also the same has occured with Air Mirroring, why were we not informed prior to upgrade that these features would be removed?

I know multi-touch gestures work on the original iPad as I have been using it with xCode for months. If this was a "dazzlingly brilliant" idea to try and force people to upgrade to an iPad 2 it will back fire and serious questions should be asked of the person or team responsible for a) holding back these features and b) not communicating it to your consumers.

It's obvious from the outpouring of condolences and sentiments that Apple is a much loved Enterprise but if this is a sign of things to come after the passing of Steve Jobs I fear for the future of Apple.

You're consumers spend a significant amount of their income on your products and services and should be treated better.

I expect iOS 5.0.1 to be released tomorrow returning these features to the original iPad or mine and a lot of others peoples next table will be an Android one"

Suggest as many people as possible copy and paste this into a bug report as well and they might get the idea!

+1 for I sent in a bug report, I was looking forward to using the gestures too

I've just signed up to this forum purely to express my disgust at this omission from iOS 5. Like many people on here this was one of the headline features for me and I am furious that this has not been included for iPad 1 users where there was no suggestion in Apple's documentation that this woule be an iPad2-only feature.

Apple - Please reinstate this feature immediately.

It looks like multi-touch gestures are available in iOS5 for iPad 1 but they are hiding under the accessibility setting. There's an option here that allows you to create custom gestures. Trouble is that I can't find out how to associate a gesture with an action.

Bloggers have been aware of this in the beta but no-one has yet figured out how it works.

So be on the look out for "configuring custom gestures in IOS5" on the interweb...

  • Thumper109 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Just so disappointed. I used the MT gestures so much on my iPad 1.

The real question to apple is why?

I have spent over $1000 just on my iPad, and to see beloved features removed without notice and for no sensible reason just makes me worry about what other features they will see fit remove.

  • noel_ Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I've submitted a bug report too!

This is totally unacceptable for all iPad 1 users and i personally feel robbed and exluded by Apple pretty much because my year old iPad isn't "new" enough for them despite (as everyone else knows) that the harware on the iPad 1 is more than capable of supperting this function).

Buck you ideas up guys - it's not good practice and alienates millions of iPad 1 users who brought in to this product.

Fail, fail, do you split and classify people? I was waiting for new iOS for a while and you disappointed me big time.

I moved from you already by getting HTC sensation and selling my iPhone 4. but I was happy with ipad1...but you just changed that and helped me to make another decision, which is buying android tablet! Asus transformer 2, here I am!

  • RucaMac Level 1 Level 1 (20 points)

+1 here very dissapointed at the fact that this feature is not made for the Ipad 1st gen!

Guess this is the future of beeing an Apple Customer, if your product is not the latest version... oh welll.....

If we where talking here at differences from version 1 to like the Iphone that is already at version 4S, then i would understand, but cmo'n this is really a slap in the face for all the people that essentially made the Ipad a success by buying the 1st gen!!!

    Oh well...
