iOS 5 wiped all my contacts. Any help?

I just switched from 4.3.3 to the iOS 5. All my contacts were wiped during the installation and restore and I can't find iMessage anywhere. Is this another App that I will need to download separately from the operating system? Any help is much appreciated.

EDIT: I figured out iMessage. But is there any way to retrieve all my contacts?!

Your contacts were backed up by iTunes upon update.

Just restore your iPhone to factory settings using iTunes. When prompted to restore from backup, select the most recent backup entry. The backup contains your contacts along with other data such as calendars, notes, and Camera Roll photos.

In addition, you might want to look at ways to manually backup and manage iPhone contacts should you happen to lose track of your contacts again.

'm in a real jam here. My iphone lost all its contacts last Thursday. I presumed that it was because I had let the battery run flat (was using GPS while cycling). The weird thing there was that I had about 33 contacts left, all the others had gone.

I could not see how to make the text message fix work as when I scroll to the top of the text message I just get 'call' 'facetime' and 'add to contacts'

There is no contact >

I had all my text messages remaining and so for each of them I added the contacts manually. It was a bit long winded but it worked and I retained a lot of my contacts.

Then, being a bit dumb, I thought I would clear out my text messages to tidy things up.

Yesterday I checked my icloud contacts page (thinking I would export a backup of these to help out in the future) and noticed it was empty other than the 'default' contacts

I thought nothing more of this until this morning when all my contacts other than the 3 defaults were removed from the phone.

I am now so ticked off, once is forgiveable but twice is so frustrating

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong with the 'contact' fix?

Sorry guys.. Suppose everyone got their fix already but...

Like everyone else I recently updated my iPhone and yes... lost all my contacts and apps.

I don't care too much about apps but my contacts.

My situation is...

- I don't have any previous backups.

- My first time using iCloud.

- Tried the whole sim import.

- Tried the edit txt contact and etc.

- Tried windows contacts.

I've pretty much tried all the suggestions provided.

Can anyone give me any other suggestions?

I have AT&T btw.

Thanks.

Sorry Had to copy and paste this fix cos I couldn't remember the exact process but I did the same as below and it was quick and easy, and all my contacts came back so please give the credit to dheleven, because I followed the instructions and it was brilliant....it worked!

Same problem. I did the iCloud merge after the iOS 5 update and my contacts were gone, but info under Favorites and Recent were still there.

What I did was turn off iCloud Contacts. It then asks if you want to keep or delete the current contacts on your phone. Since I had no contacts anyways because they were missing, I hit delete. I went back into Contacts but there was nothing. Then I turned on iCloud Contacts again and went into Contacts. All of my original contacts prior to the update re-appeared.

Note: Ensure that you're connected to Wi-Fi especially if you decided to turn the "Use Cellular" off under iCloud Documents & Data.

I hope this helps you guys.

I have the same trouble. My contact list and even the names on messages were all gone. But when I use WhatsApp, the name appeared on the pop up screens but gone again when I go into the program. Does that mean my phone still has the contact in them? Does anyone know how to fix that? I've tried all the methods listed here but nothing worked. Please help 😟. Please.
