Account Limit Reached

When I try to set up me iCloud ID with my Apple ID in OS X lion I get this:

Account Limit Reached

This device is no longer eligible for creating an Apple ID.

I have never been in the beta program or anything so I really don't get it?

I too have this problem on my iMac. Serial is in place and I only tried using my newly created iCloud account. I contacted Apple and was sent this reply:

I understand that you are not able to sign in and create new Apple ID in a device and you are receiving a message that "This device is no longer eligible for creating an Apple ID". I am sure you are anxious at this time and I will do whatever I can to help you.

Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.

Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.

Have nice day!

I have same problem but on a new iMac. The serial no. is ok - I have 3 users set up and 2 of them accept the apple ID for iCloud I have entered but the 3rd user does not. It will let me use another ID but this is not the one I wish to use as it is not the email address of the user. If I try to create a new ID I get the 'Account Limit Reached' error. I have made a new ID in both iTunes and and via the iCloud web site and although these have both been verified, when I try to use either of them in iCloud I get 'Account Limit Reached'. If I sign out and enter the 'old' inapropriate ID it works fine! - AppleCare to date has not come up with a solution but this is still ongoing. Any Ideas?

Hi just to be clear, I downloaded a torrent of blank board serializer and made it into a bootable dmg on a usb drive, and then after clicking "option" on start-up I also got a black screen with a white underscore at the top left. Tried rebooting a couple of times, waited, and it went nowhere. Running a MBP 2.4GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo with a replaced motherboard..

Anyway, maybe this was a bum copy of BBS, that's why I asked for a copy (didn't get it). Truth is, after plugging my login/pass in the iCloud System Prefs window, over and over again, magically it started working. I still don't have a serial number, at least according to "About this Mac." Dunno if this helps.
