iPhone 4 5.0 Upgrade 3200 Error

I am trying to upgrade a vanilla iPhone 4 to the 5.0 software and the process works fine and after the backup and extraction, I get the 3200 error. Any help on solving for my Mac OS Lion?

During the install, I got a message "Error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-32)" message, yet it booted up, and after a couple of hiccups during the settings process for iOS5, I was able to get on, but with only about 18 of my 215 (literally) apps.

Minor panic ensued, thinking I would have to go through the App Store and restore them all individually back onto my iPhone.

But I opened up my iPhone (3GS, BTW) in iTunes, and is started to sync my apps back to my machine.

Thank goodness.

Here is hoping that it all goes well.

Good luck!

Same error here. This is for an ipad2, though. first it failed to backup and said if I clicked ok all data would be wiped from my uipad. I clicked cancel then it backed up fine when I clicked Update again. The iOS5 software itself took 3 attempts to download, failing after 500MB and 698MB. Then after the software was extracted, I got the 3200 error. trying again but no high hopes.

I also suspect a heavily over-worked server. I've given up on my 3GS upgrade & am now downloading the Ipad version - rather slowly.

I'll cross my fingers, but may give up and leave it until the morning.

Mind you, trying to log into the Icloud account from Win control panel also said my account had not been converted - when I went through the process one hour earlier... Hey ho. Suppose I shouldn't be impatient.

Same again - iPhone 4 brand new from shop on 4.3.5

Restore error 3200, only way out was DFU mode, and now I get:

- black screen for 5 seconds

- apple logo for about 1 minute

- apple logo + progress bar for about 2 seconds

- spinner for about 3 minutes, then fades to...

- black screen for 5 seconds

and repeat ad infinitum!

Dead iPhone... and the Concerige service is broken so I can't book an appointment for tomorrow! :|

I had similiar issues. I needed to make sure I updated iTunes, also you need to be with 10.7.2 because of the iCloud usability. This was recommended to me and follwing making sure al was updated all installed fine with no error code.

That said there could be a heavy server usage issue. Who knows, sure you will install good. Have been very happy with iOS 5 the week Ive been using it:)

Yeah as a few have already said, although perhaps drowned out by the "AMG IT NOT WORKING!!" posts, it seems to be just a server issue. Doing a hard reset of your phone does not resolve it, the ones posting that just got "lucky" that the time after they restarted it happened to let them on.

My phone is updating now, I tried a hard reset and it still failed, then after a couple of go's it started working, so if your getting the problem dont panic, just stick with it an keep trying and eventually you'll get through ok.

We could all save ourselves a little stress if we read/headed the posts of the several folks that nailed the issue! It is an Apple Server overload issue. Either keep trying or wait for things to calm down. No need to be fiddling with a bunch of crap on your phone or in iTunes 🙂.

Can't wait to try it out. I guess I am not alone which is why the servers are overloaded!

I had this issue on my 3GS. Here are the steps I took with Apple Engineering's Support:

1. I rebooted my Windows 7 machine

2. I TEMPORARILY disabled my virus and firewall

3. Restarted itunes

4. Reconnected the 3GS to the USB cable

5. Clicked "Update"

The backup took a lot longer than normal and the whole thing was complete in about 20 mins. I now have iOS 5 and it appears to work great!
