I'm getting an iOS 5 Unknown Error 3200 during the iOS 5 installation process on my iPod Touch. Anyone else getting this? If so, any suggestions?
iTunes backed up the iPod and was doing a restore of iOS 5 when the error occured.

I'm getting it too. I have no idea why :\. Right after the back-up, this happens. My phone is 100% legit. So that's even more confusing.
Did you check your security software settings?
Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes.

Yes. I checked all those things. Still doesn't work.
I also tried to update my iPhone 3GS and encountered the same error. The error occured after downloading iOS5 and just after the extracting process finished.
I can access the store and view my purchased songs, so this doesn't seem to be a permissions issue as suggested below.

Fixed it. If you're using McAfee firewall, DELETE your entry for iTunes, and re-allow it full access. The iTunes update borked it.
does this effect Kaspersky users?
I've completedly uninstaled McAfee but I still get the 3200 error. any suggestions on manually doing something? thanks in advance!
I'm on Mac, and I got error 3200 when attempting to update to iOS 5.
The actual error was that it could not "restore".

Im guessing itunes cant connect because the servers are being overwhelmed with people trying to update. Nothing to do but wait until traffic goes down...

I had the same problem.. Tried 3 times, always the same error 3200. My soultion was to reboot/restart my iPhone, then the problem was gone.. 🙂
Given up, what a **** Update, you would have thought with all that cash they have a decent infrastructure would have been designed.

It isn't about security/firewall settings (which I also tried). It's just a bad time to connect to Apple's servers.
If you adjusted your security settings and it worked, they're probably not related. You probably just got lucky on the timing.
