What should i do:

While updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 i recieve an error without a specific error number it just says: "An internal error occured"

iTunes, and my computer are all up to date with software updates (i am running 10.6.8 Mac OSX) and i have not jailbroken my phone.

If it was like me, a restore should not be necessary. Your ipod, ipad, or iphone is untouched. It should succeed when traffic lifts.

If you are using OpenDNS, switch to your ISP's DNS servers for faster delivery. It's a trick that has helped some people. I have not directly tested it.

Note that the ipad will think the restore is done, you should leave itunes as the active application as it continues to sync your apps and music and videos, providing you have transferred your purchases.

I haven't had that "internal error ocurred" problem, instead, after iTunes backs up my data and extract the software it shows the message "The iPod "mevsgod's iPod" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build" I mean... i have and iPod touch 4th Gen... what does that "isn't eligible for the requested build" mean? I know my device is meant to run iOS 5 it's not like I'm trying to update an iPhone 2G to iOS 5 or something like that... has anybody had this error? I'm kind of losing my mind, I've been waiting quite some time for this update and now it appears that a lot of people is having trouble updating to this iOS version... what's going on apple? can't you function without Steve Jobs?

Please create a new thread. This is a different error message.

You may try clicking on "More information" in itunes when that error appears.

OR

Google: "The iPod "mevsgod's iPod" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build" site:discussions.apple.com or site:support.apple.com

You will find references to this error.

If you do post a thread. please include whether or not you've jailbroken the device. Please also ensure you've upgraded to the latest version of itunes.

Please also include any error number.
