I enter the correct apple ID and password but icloud says that "This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account". What's the problem?

I am having the same problem, can log in on my iphone but not my mac.
Same problem here on my wife's account. My account worked but my wife's just will not work. Her phone and iPad is working but mail.app and the iCloud control panel will not login. She can also access iCloud.com with the same user name and password just fine.
Help!!!!
I successfully moved my MobileMe account to iCloud and now I am able to access the service from both my iPhone 3GS and www.icloud.com. The problem is that I can't connect to iCloud with my Mac (10.7.2) since I am prompted this message:
This Apple ID is valid but it does not correspond to an iCloud account.
Any tips on this?
Alright...so today I went to System Preferences and I was automatically logged in to my iCloud account. I had to turn everything on, but so far so good. Haven't tried anything different in a few days since I was so frustrated, but hopefully I won't have to worry about it anymore. Good luck to the rest of you!
Same issue here. I've tried all the troubleshooting. Works fine on an iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone but one other iMac - the error persists. MobileMe support told me to remove the system prefs plist (but that won't work because I have the same issue in a new user so it's system wide.) Only other option, which seems extreme, has been to re-install Lion. I'm waiting for Apple on this one!
I fixed my problem, I use littlesnitch and I tried turning it off then tried to log in to icloud on my macbook pro, and all went fine. Switched lttle snitch back on and its all still working great!
I'm having the same problem. I don't have a mobileMe account.
How do set up my account?
How do I set-up my MacBook Pro, 10.6.8, with icoud?
okay figured it out
you need to delte a plist file
open terminal and paste this:
sudo rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
then restart your computer and it will work. 🙂
Didn't work for me.
I even did a fresh install of Lion then full system update and same problem.
Apple please help!!!!!
Mike, tried what you suggested - didn't work for me.
I get the same message as before.
Same problem here 😟 i am a little bit sad
hi all,
everyone who are still having this problem, pls go to 'about this mac' and check is the serial number for ur mac is still there. if not, then that is causing the problem. the most likely reason for not having the serial number is getting the mac repaired and the tech there forgot/did not care about putting the serial number back. some also said (in this forum) that sn 'vanised' after updating to 10.7.2 n they did not have their repaired.
anyway, in case ur serial number is not there, then follow the below procedures:
download Blank Board Serializer from internet. look for it on google, and it is also there in torrent.
but remember, both of the files i downloaded for it, was in an old zip format. u need stuffit to unzip it.
then write the .dmz file (after unzipping) to a pendrive. i didn't want to use a cd for a 10 mb file. it worked for me from the usb. search on google how to make a bootable usb drive. u have to do it with disk utilities. there are several sites which shows how to do it. most of the sites show how to do it for lion installation disk. just follow the process replacing the lion dmg by this dmg.
then restart and boot from the pendrive (or in case u used a cd/dvd).
after booting, it takes 2/1 mins to put the old serial number written on the mac on ur mother board.
now restart and see the s/n is there on 'about this mac'.
then start icloud.
let me know if it works for u.
To see if this is an issue with a particular model, let's post what we have.
I have a 20 inch iMac late 2006.
Also, just an FYI, I can log into iCloud on my other Mac using the same account that fails on this one. That is why I like it is model specific.
Interesting....
I did swap out my hard drive but I can see the serial number in about this Mac.
i lost my serial number after getting the motherboard replace by apple under warranty.
anyway, i dont think this problem is model dependent. a lot of ppl are posting about this problem in their different models of mac.
in case it helps someone, my one is MBP mid 2010 model.
