Just upgraded my 3gs to iOS5 and Music App doesn't play correctly

After updating my 3GS to iOS5 the Music App no longer plays. It opens, I click on a song and it shows the Play arrow change to a Pause button but the timeslider doesn't move nor does any sound come out. When I choose another song, nothing happens.

The weird part is that sometimes it will play the correct song but then jump around to another song entirely (the shuffle is not turned on). Plus when I click a song it sometimes starts playing a different song than the one I just selected.

Any ideas?

I've tried rebooting the phone...

Nope.. didn't seem to do anything.

Some songs play fine..most don't play or immediatly jump to a different song and not play. There's no logic in why some play and some don't.

I also noticed now that syncing appears to be in the background? You don't get the "Syncing..slide to cancel" screen anymore.. just a spinning arrow at the top during the sync process.

Anyway, I might just try to restore the phone to defaults and reinstall.. Unfortunately, the servers are overloaded now so I'll have to wait.

Any other ideas?

Another thought popped into my head...

Could it be that all the songs weren't really on the iphone? and they were somehow being synced to the phone wirelessly from itunes? I don't see a setting to tell whether to sync via wired or not..

So maybe the titles were there but the content wasn't yet?

Just a thought..

ok..update..

Looks like by unchecking itunes sync music and then resyncing the whole library again it worked. It took a lot longer to sync this time then the initial sync during the install of iOS5. So I'm guessing the files weren't really on the phone or were in the process of being transferred since i have 969 songs..

Anyway, seems to be working now...

I tried all the different options on the forums. after restoring and multiple syncs, i got the $hits...

Each time i updated, it showed that i had all my music on my iphone, however when i tried to play them, they were inactive or 'greyed' out.

I watched the sync, would get to the 13/14th song and cancel the sync.

The latest try that has worked for me is to only sync checked items. so i deselected the album causing the issue and the rest of my library is now on the phone working perfectly.

its probably a simple issue that will be fixed, but frustrating as **** when it doesnt work.

just hope this helps someone else having a similar issue.

good luck 🙂

After an flawless update to iOS 5, this was my only issue. I can select a song to play... but it doesn't play. It shows the Pause button (meaning it's playing), but the progress bar would not move. Sometimes it jumps to a different song then the one I selected, but it doesn't play either.

So I did what tmulle suggested:

Un-checked the music sync option, and synced the changes.

Re-checked music sync option, and now waiting for 1100 songs to sync.

I'll let you know if this works... whenever this finishes syncing... zzz. But I got a good feeling about this.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this 'bug' tmulle.

Tricky83: sounds like you got a bad (corrupted?) song in that album. I've seen iTunes do some wacky things with files that like.

Upgraded my wife's 3GS to iOS 5 and have this same problem. Won't play any music in the music app. Changes to play but slider sits at 0. Note that music and sounds all work fine in games etc, it is just the music app which will not play. I deleted all her songs and then added them back in iTunes but made no difference. My iPhone 4 and kids iPod Touch upgraded fine to iOS5.

Any other ideas?
