Getting iCloud mail in Mail app/OS X 10.5.8

So I have my iCloud set up using my apple account email address. Which I thought would be fine. When I went to settings -> iCloud -> Mail on my iPhone 4, it said I had to set up a .me address in order to use email on iCloud, so I typed in an @me.com address that was accepted. Never asked me to establish a password or anything... Now my @me address works fine on my iPhone and the iCloud website, but is it true there is no way to set it up so the Mail app in OS X 10.5.8 can retrieve it?

If you're 10.5.8, it might be different, but you should be able to just add an imap account in mail.app on your mac. Go to mail preferences, then accounts tab and hit the plus sign in the bottom left corner. Type in your email and password and it should guide you through the rest.

I already tried that as well and it didn't work for me...I contacted iCloud/MobileMe support and they said "there is no guarantee it will transfer to OS 10.5.8". I don't quite understand the ambiguity regarding it sometimes working and sometimes not working.

These are the correct settings for iCloud Mail on 10.5.8, note that it will not set up automatically, you'll have to do it yourself, but it will work.

I have been pulling my hair out.

Bottom line is that you should not have switched to i-Cloud Mail.

I am told that you need Lion, In my case, buy a new computer for everything to work.

My problem is that I can not even attach a 2Mb photo to i-cloud e-mail on my 10.5.8.

Very dissappointing,

What are you talking about? I am using iCloud mail on several platforms, including Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Window 7, IOS and Android?

So why are you telling me that I should buy a new computer? I have lots already.
