iPhoto does not show iCloud Photostream?

I understand but if i take a photo with an iphone and it sends to to the photostream folder on my imac and on my ipad. How do i get it to transfer over to the regular pictures folder on the ipad so when the 30 days are up i still have that picture on my ipad?

If i'm following you right you would move the photo from the photo stream location and copy it to the iPhoto library location. From there you can sync it to iPad by selecting that photo's check mark box in the photo section of the iPad that's where is has sections for movies, apps, photos, etc. Hope this works for you...I just did that exact thing from photo stream to iPhoto library and synced by selected the desired photos on the break out menu when the iOS device is connected to the Mac...

Charles yes you are right and i would love to use itunes to download the pic to the camear roll folder on the device except for the following.

when i take a photo with my iphone and configure iphoto on my imac and ipad to use photostream,

4 things happen.

1. the photo is placed in the camera roll folder on my iphone:(where the photo orginated from)

2. the photo is placed in teh photostream folder on my ipad(not in the same folder as all my regular pictures that ive taken i.e. camera roll on ipad).

3. the photo is placed in the photostream folder in iphoto on my imac.

4. the photo is also automatically placed in the regular photos folder in iphoto.

(so there is no need to manually copy the picture over in iphoto). I think this is the part thats causing duplications to happen in iphoto as wella s on my idevice, but read on.

now if i use itunes on my imac to "sync" my iphoto photos to my ipad & iphone, 2 things will happen.

****keep in mind before i plug any device into my imac that the original photo from my iphone camera roll has already been syncd to the iphoto library via photostream(not just the photostream folder on my imac)***

1. if i plug in my ipad and sync the photos, yes that picture i took with the iphone will now show up in the regular camera roll on the ipad because itunes sync the photo from the photo library.

2. if i plug in my iphone and sync the photos(SYNC ALL PHOTOS option in itunes), the photo will be duplicated in iphoto and on my iphone

And here is why:

Because it will download the newly taken pic from my camera roll(which photostraem had already copied over in iphoto previously) into the iphoto library. This then leads to itunes duplicating the photo on my iphone as well, because i already have the original picture i took on the iphone, along with my newly syncd pic from my iphoto(which was copied over with photostream to my imac). this pic will now be in my camera roll duplicated, as well as on my imac iphoto library.

and this happens vise versa if the origination point is an ipad.

hope i didnt confuse anyone but i tried it and thats what happens. let me know if im missing a step and thats why im getting duplicated photos.

Very good description... thanks for sharing. I have heard multiple issues with the poor ability to manage this service. I have no doubt it will improve. Due to the lack of consistency and control I opt ot not enable iCloud for new clients I work with until they have researched it a little bit. I'm wondering if the service is really necessary except for contacts and calendering. I'm not in that urgent need to sync my photos all over the cloud, maybe others have a different need, perhaps folks that are in the news or real estate or photography business.

Sorry you've had that experience but I think it needs to be worked on more to iron out those issues. I knew beforehand it was gonna be klugey just because it's diving too deep on a perceived need, got more complicated than it needed to be for something not everyone needs....

Open iPhoto - Click on the iPhoto menu (upper left hand conrner) - Select Prefrences - Click on Photostream - Enable settings as desired. Done!

I have a connection to Photostream on my iPad, but not on my iMac. I have tried the directions above and I always get a response "iPhoto was unable to connect to photostream." I was able to connec the first time I updated to Lion, but midway through a download of pictures from my camera, the photostream disappeared from my sidebar.

I have already deleted all the .plist files etc which relate to iphoto and photostream from the user library

Ok Guys here the fix for it!

You need to first go into system preferences > icloud and untick "photostream"

The second thing you need to do is to go into your user library and search for a series of files.

Firstly type in icloud and delete all files which come up in the search within the user library

Next type in "iphoto" and do the same again

Thirdly type in "photostream" and do the same as the before.

Once you have deleted these files go into the trash and empty it.

You may get an error saying you can't delete a file in this case click on "secure empty trash"

Finally restart your Mac and go back into system preferences > icloud and type in your icloud password as we removed this by deleting files earlier and tick "photostream"

By opening iPhoto now it will take a bit longer as its rebuilding the application but when it opens go to preferences and enable "photostream"

This should work perfectly!

For anyone that has been monitoring "activity monitor" during their troubleshooting of the problem will have probably noticed that "CrashReporter" was constantly creating errors reports using unnecessary amounts of CPU usage. I traced these errors back to the user library and decided to delete all references to icloud and photostream in order to flush out the bug.

Let me know if you still have any problems after completing this process.

Please don't do that.

You have no idea what you're deleting. The User Library can contain many things necessary for iPhoto and you have't a clue what you're trashing.

The iPhoto files stored in the user library are only configuration files which are rebuilt when you re-launch iPhoto after trashing. This process is used regularly to recover corrupt iPhoto libraries which fail to launch at the genius bar.

The same cannot be said for all files in the user library and yes this is done at the users risk but, I would rather trash some .plist files first rather than just result to having to reinstall the OS to fix the problem.

Two Macs now have fully functioning "photostreams" and iPhoto is running far smoother than before.

Make sure you have your machine all backed up first and give it a go if you feel comfortable with the process.

This is not true, I'm afraid. For a start the Application Support folder has an iPhoto folder than can contain plug-ins. The iCloud folder contains account details, and that's just those two.

Trashing files that you don't undertstand the purpose of is dangerous.

How did you manage to locate these 3ivx files? Photo Stream suddenly disappeared from my RECENT album list. Thanks in advance.

The 3ivx files referred to caused a crash on launch of iPhoto 9.2. This has since been repaired by updates to 3ivx and/or the 9.2.1 update to iPhoto. They have nothing to do with Photo stream.

This is no help at all. The suggesstion of deleting the 3ivx file from quicktime doesn't help either. It does not exist on my iMac runing Lion 10.7.3

You might be overthinking this, which I can't because I have a simple mind, but this worked for me...make sure your Apple ID on Photostream and iTunes are the same...
