IOS 5 download stuck on contacting iPhone update server

I've had the same problem all evening. Have you had any luck? Do you think this is just due to the number of people trying to download tonight?

I called the apple store and apparantly many many many people can not connect to server because there is way to many people trying to connect to the server, more then they can keep up with but said they are currently working on the problem. I have been trying all evening as well:(

You make os x software isn't up to date as well it needs to be 10.7.2, if your still having problems with the software update.

The update was released nearly 15 hours ago and I still can't connect the to servers. I have tired on my iPhone 4s, my wifes iPhone 4 and also through iTunes and nothing. I hope this gets resolved quickly. Its 0200 here surely there isnt that many people this time of the night.

i m using iphone 4 and iphone 4s in india and thats same problem contracting the iphone software update server when it been resolved by apple!!

Have the same problem in the UK. Can't update iPhone, iPad or Apple TV....

Having the same problem in NZ, unable to update iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 or iPad....

Yep, another me too - from New Zealand - my iPad is stuck with "contacting the ipad software update server".

Awesome, that did the trick. How to do that for the iOS devices on their own though?

Cool !! I was trying to update for days... I don't know what Google DNS server has to do with apple servers, but it did work immediately !! Many thanls to Sufflethecards.

Finally!! Thanks. Google DNS working great when devices connected to MAC. BUT still can't get Apple TV to update. Anyone else?
