After i got the iOS 5 update, all my apps were gone as well as my photos... is there a way to recover the photos?

Got same situation here. At least I've opened my iphone's backup folder and everything is there, photos, videos. But, named like "f869a62bc3f205456726dd3d06192bd7e127e7fc". It can be opened using any photo software or video app if its a video.

But it would be great to have it all back to camera roll..original names, geo locations etc.

I backuped up everything, but still trying to restore it (clean).

So THATS anger...

I always back everything up first & import my photos & clear them from the device before doing an iOS upgrade just because i want to be safe... I've NEVER needed to use my backups before, the upgrade has always gone smooth.

The ONE time i forget to import/dump the photos... my wife is not gonna be happy tomorrow morning.

Thanks a lot.

I lost all my photos too, and when I tried to restore from backup it didn't work. But I went and found the actual folder where the backup is stored (C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup) and all the photos were in there, I just needed to rename all the files. Not sure if there's an easier way to get these back...

Hey guys, i found a solution for our problem, at least it worked for me.

1- Download Iphone Explorer (does not need to be a jailbroken device) http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/

2.) connect your iphone using the usb cable

3.) launch iphone explorer

4.) backup and then delete the following files:

/Media/PhotoData/MISC/Info.plist

/Media/PhotoData/Photos.sqlite (or /PhotoData/Photos.sqlite)

/Media/PhotoData/PhotosAux.sqlite (or /PhotoData/PhotosAux.sqlite)

5.) reboot your iphone

After you reboot your device, windows will prompt if you wan to open your iphone on windows explorer as usual. After you open it, your photos are going to be there, just like it was before update.

andrespibr,

I wanted to thank you, thank you, thank you, for your post. I followed your instructions, downloaded and installed the Mac version of iExplorer and deleted the files you'd listed. One difference for me was that instead of finding a file named: /Media/PhotoData/MISC/Info.plist, I found: /Media/PhotoData/MISC/DCIM_APPLE.plist. I took a chance and deleted that one as well as the Photos.sqlite and PhotosAux.sqlite files (after backing these three up, as you'd suggested). Quit out of iExplorer, disconnected the USB cable, powered my iPhone off and then on again and my camera roll had been restored! Again, thank you for the helpful info. I should learn to back up EVERYTHING before rushing to these updates. Now that "lost" data has been retrieved, I can relax and enjoy the new iOS 5 features.
