Q: Delete single photos in photostream

Try Dropbox, it even backs up data from some of my apps, like 2Do. I have 2Do on my iPhone and iPad and they are always synced. It doesn't do photo sync that I know of but maybe in time it will.

Oh yeah, man, Dropbox is amazing.  I think part of Apple's problem is that it wanted to produce something that worked differently than anything else out there.  And they did.

I'm a Apple fan, but... Sometimes they annoy me...

Photostream is realt nice in the sense that it's syncing via iCloud, but... It's only the photostream which is syncin'... Not all the albums I've made! If I want albums in my iPhone I still have to sync via iTunes and not via iCloud... Furthermore if I make photos via my iPhone they are both saved in my Photo Roll as in Photo Stream... That's double and too much without an option to switch it off...

iCloud is a very good concept, but it really needs deepening....

Yeah I agree with almost everyone on this thread. I really enjoy sharing photos with my family, but I need to delete some of the crappy ones that I've deleted from my phone but are stuck in photo stream taking up space. I take loads of photos so I have a lot of crap photos on the stream taking up space.

Apple hasn't given this option intentionally (otherwise it would be there) and I reckon it comes back to marketing. Clog up the free account so they can up-sell their premium package. And let's face it, just clearing photo stream is super difficult. I have 5 devices uploading and downloading photos to and from photo stream and it takes some time to do this.

This seriously needs to get fixed. It's ridiculous. I have an iMac, 2 iPads, Apple TV and an iPhone. So I get to have pointless, crappy pictures everywhere when I just needed them for a minute, not forever. I can't imagine it being that difficult. Please get back on track Apple and make this simple fix.

I had to take pictures of toilets when I was at Lowes/Home Depot to make sure I was getting the right toilet.  Now, I have floating crappers on my TV.  First you see a lovely picture of the family show up Ken Burns style followed by a Kohlers pooper.

Can we start a support group for all unlucky souls that have two or more Apple ID's?  I was one of the unfortunates that had an old Mobile Me account that forced me to change my ID to an email address.  Kind of strange you can practically launch a nuclear weapon with the iPhone but they cannot find a way to merge ID's. 

And have you accidentially typed the wrong password more than once?  Apple makes you change it after two or three mistakes (ok, my bad for forgetting).  You have to change it on EVERY device.  And if you've used the new password you are trying to create within the last 75 years, they won't let you use it.  Come on!!!  Give us 20 attempts.  I have 30 different passcodes.

Seriously, and people Dis Microsoft?    I could make a list of all of Apple's crappy 'features'.  This is close to the top of the list.  Seriously, if I didn't have 8 years of iTunes data, I'd be switching to Windows Phone right about now.

Thank God I never bought an Apple Mac.  iOS was Apple's one redeeming OS, and it seems to be getting buggier and crappier the longer it goes on.  Maybe Apple needs to spend more money on Development than it apparantly does before implementing immature 'features'.

Ok.. Found simple solution. Was just as aggravated as others but here is my answer.

- turn off photo stream. (this will delete pics in photo stream but they should still be in your camera roll.)

- edit/delete photos from camera roll, take pics, be happy.

- WHEN YOU ARE READY.. THEN turn on photo stream and all those pics you actually want will be pulled from camera roll and added to photo stream and uploaded via iCloud to pc and etc.

- so.. Just keep it off till your ready to upload! Really not that tough guys but I do agree that the same permissions that apply to camera roll should apply to photo stream album.

I think everyone here already knows that. It's just a PIA and not in keeping with Apple's normal easy to use standards. I've done it once already. Just hate to keep doing. It sort of defeats the purpose.

Part of the problem is that existing programs already perform photostream's function very well, so Apple has to do something different to distinguish itself, and because what's out there is so good, it's going to be very hard to beat what's out there.

The new Dropbox app on my iPhone allows me to select photos and upload them to my dropbox, which then instantly appears both in a folder on my desktop and creates a URL to a photoalbum.  Individual photos can be excluded or deleted in the process.  I work directly with the files rather than having to go through iPhoto and then export them.  Photostream is a seriously inferior product in comparison.  You'd almost think Dropbox developers were reading this thread.

That being said, iCloud in general isn't a bad idea and works well.  I love being on my computer, downloading an app using iTunes, and then seeing it appear on my iPhone and iPad pretty much right away.  I liked how it worked with Pages and Numbers on my iPad too.  I can't quite get it to do the same thing on my MacBook Pro, though -- like it won't sync with Pages on my laptop. 

If people know then what's the problem? Just means turning photo stream on and off.

Think about it, If photostream is on and you take pictures, and then go to delete them, it doesn't make sense cuz they've already uploaded. So either you want a delay on uploading (which people would then complain about) or just turn on photostream when you want to share. Makes sense. I did find annoying but this works fine.

Will definitely have to try that Dropbox app.

Photostream does have issues but it's still nifty and easier than old methods.

It's truly amazing.  You bashed multiple people on this board for posting the "purpose" of photostream yet you continue to make silly and uniformed comments about the feature.  Dropbox is not photostream.  Why don't you get this?  You can't compare two functions that have nothing to do with each other.  Dropbox is an online cloudbased storage application.  It allows you to keep organized albums and folders and store them and edit them and pick and choose the ones you want to keep.  Photostream is purely a sync program.  Why do you think it's called stream?  It streams all of your photos to all of your devices and then you MUST choose which photos you want to keep on those individual devices.  They did this on purpose so that you can have different photos on different devices yet have a feature to sync these photos without them all being identical.  The photoSTREAM sends all of your photos, up to a FIXED limit to your devices for you to then save and organize the ones you want.  After 30 days, your photos on photoSTREAM are GONE.  You can not store photos using photostream and that is not the intent.  Apple's sole reason for coming up with a "fix" so that you can delete individual photos is to appease people who make uneducated comparisons of photostream to dropbox.  Dropbox exists so if you want dropbox functionality then use dropbox.  There is app for it and it works great.  It is not a competitor or a replacement or a similar feature to photostream so please stop making a fool out of yourself.
