Q: iCal data lost after MobileMe to iCloud transfer

Completed the transfer from MobileMe to iCloud and set up all devices..no issues there.

Opened iCal and found that the entries had all been duplicated - after deleting the duplicates (1st mistake) then found that after a sync - all was lost.

Luckily I had backed up before the updates - so imported the data back into iCal - but as soon as it syncs, it reverts back - no imported data remains...

Seems that the iCloud is overwriting the restore iCal on the mac....

Anyone else having this issue, or have any suggestions?

Oh, and btw iCloud doesn't have any of MobileMe's revert functions, or overwrite from the cloud, or anyway to manage syncing at all.  Insanely poor release.

Ever since the iCal update several months ago all of my alerts and reminders had been e-mailed to me from my husband's mac address.  He has not moved from MobileMe to iCloud, but yesterday when I did, all of HIS calendars were erased on my computer and on all of his devices!  Help!

I seem to have come of reasonably well. A new calendar entry on any of either my iPhone, iMac, or Macbook Pro all sync and magically appear (or delete) via the iCloud. The only issue I have is that on my iPnone iCal all entries prior to September 8th have disappeared. If I am off line (ie iCloud free) why does n't the entire history of the calendar on my Macbook not merge and sync back to the iPhone? Any thoughts?

I experienced the exact problem after deleting my duplicates and now I don't know where I'm supposed to be and when. This is very frustrating and I risk losing credibility with my clients if I miss my appointments.

I also had this happen a few days ago. I had my calendars duplicated on MobileMe and iCloud. I deleted the MobileMe calendars and they promptly disappeared off my iCloud. I phoned AppleCare and they were friendly but uable to recover my calendars. I had assumed that the old MobileMe calendars would be backed up in the cloud somewhere but they apparently are not. So I had to do the calendars from scratch. I now do back-ups of my calendars on my computers.

    Thank you DJ1511.

After upgrading to Lion on my macs and to iOS5 on my iPad and iPhone I switched my MobileMe account to the iCloud. Migration went well, but in the Cloud all the events in my calenders were duplicated. I then decided to delete one of the calenders... and lost all my iCal data. Wrong move. Then I found out that the backup that Apple suggested to make before switching to the Cloud did not really help as the restored iCal data is immediately overwritten by the data on the Cloud. So thank you DJ1511 for providing an approach to deal with this issue.

I think Apple's advise for switching from MobileMe to iCloud is inaccurate and the messages that you receive during the process (would you like to merge data) are confusing. It seems to me that when the iCal data on seperate Macs is identical after syncing on the MobileMe platform, the merging of the data results in duplicating the events. This is certainly not what you expect when you say Yes to merging. You certainly need to make a backup of the data stored in iCal, but you need to make backups for each individual calander in the iCal calenderlist. You need the .ics files, not the .icbu to restore the calenders when you have lost the iCal data after switching to iCal in the Cloud.

I'd like to add to my difficulties with the switch to iCloud. I now find that my 2nd gen iPod touch no longer syncs contacts when it is plugged into iTunes on my Mac. It will sync bookmarks and calendars but not contacts. I even tried to DFU the device three times to no avail. I took the device to an Apple store and had a genius look at it. If iCloud is turned off then the device will sync to contacts but will not when iCloud is active. I did a work around by having my contacts on my gmail account and having the touch sync to my gmail contacts while it is plugged into iTunes. This did work but i ended up having all my contacts duplicated on my address book. Upgrading to iCloud has been an terrible experience and I find it very unApple-like. I am very disappointed and for the moment I do not trust the iCloud. I will not turn on the Photo Stream since who knows what will happen to my pictures.... I also am loathe to sell my iPod touch to get a 4th gen since the 2nd gen is working just fine.

I've had these same problems: first duplicates, then Calendars erased. Two questions:

    - For half of my calendars the reminders appear but no calendars, for the other half vice-versa.

    - I had two MobileMe accounts before my iCloud transition. Seems to me that played in a role in the problems.
