How to remove Newsstand from iPhone?

I get it -- it's a "folder" so we can't put it in t another folder, thereby getting it out of the way. But I won't be using it (just like I don't use Gamecenter), and I resent having it take up space at the top level nav. Fail.

So how do we remove Newsstand from the iphone (or other ios5 device)?

Yeah... I appreciate the empathy... but that's not a solution... not even a work-around... it's just all that's left.

Come on Apple... fix this... the rest of the upgrade seems to be a pretty big win... but don't make users resent having a blatant "revenue enhancement opportunity" angering them everytime they swipe... if there's real value in the newsstand, people will opt in to it.

Due to this NewsStand I am obligated to have a secondary page JUST to store it away because I hate having clutter on my phone. If only I could delete or move it into another folder it would make things much easier. Since iOS 4 I have only had 1 page, now I am FORCED to have two because I don't like having more than 1 line of icons.

Makes me want to JailBreak my phone and delete it from the code at this point, or hope Apple releases a update which allows users to move or delete it.

Yep.. Worse than useless. I keep my News apps (BBC, NPR, and so on) in a News folder ... except for NYTimes that has magically disappeared to the otherwise useless Newstand. Now, I can't add the Newstand to my news folder and I can't add the other news apps to the Newsstand, it just squirts around the screen when I try. Sigh. Guess I'll just stop reading the NY Times.

Same here, I have a News folder but I can't even stick this worthless POS app in it. Thanks for messing with me efforts at organization Apple.

Funny I thought I paid for this phone. My mistake, I guess Apple still owns MY property and THEY can tell me how I should be organizing my icons.

I've never used Jailbreak but I am really begining to understand why people do.

The funniest part about all this is... half of the embedded App's that Apple makes me keep on my phone are the ones I hide or have a special "junk" page for... some of their best apps are the ones I've found in the app store and downloaded myself.

They really need to allow you to at least turn it "off" from the settings to bring back if you want or need. And I want to pic icons for my folders... my pages are full of folders and are an ugly grey mess.

W4R posted this work-around:

"There is a way:

  • Take two apps and go to create a folder
  • The second the apps are in the folder and it’s doing the folder creation animation, drag Newsstand into the folder
  • As long as you’re quick enough Newsstand will go into the folder!

Be very quick about it!"

Brilliant!

I don't want **ITTER TWITTER on my phone. It is not appropriate to have it in any way shape or form for my work, business, or daily needs.

I don't want NEWSSTAND added to a page of 'UN-WaNTED' - Non-removeable apps. IBOOKS can be removed - Newstand should be the same.

This is not a cue to discuss 'how good' these apps are.' They should be optional. Boint blank.

The quesiton is How To Remove. (not how to hide).

Thanks
