When you set it up, there was a notice that you couldn't change this once you set it up.

Hopefully they change that, but for now, I believe you're stuck.

I had the same problem when I created a new email account. First I changed my user id on my main apple account. This allowed my new email to appear in emails I sent. But it did not transfer to the icloud. Finally, I hit the red delete button, which was followed by a screen that gave the option of retaining on my ipad all of the information that was in the cloud. This seems to have worked but I'll know more in time

If you don't want to delete your iTunes account ... the other option is to "Restore to factory settings" (while connected to iTunes, click on the Restore button in iTunes, or hold both buttons on your iPhone down for 10 sec, then hold just the front button down for 10 sec). Chose "restore to factory settings". You lose all your settings, but at least you can chose a new iCloud ID.

After you've done this, don't restore from a previous backup, or your iCloud ID will go back to what it was before.

There has got to be a better way to do this...

I think this is very confusing 🙂. Hopefully this will help this thread ... (and me if people who know what is really going on can chime in 🙂).

The apple ID is used for logging into iTunes and iCloud. If you want to sync email/notes to iCloud you have to sign up for a me.com email address (which is different also). Your apple ID doesn't have to be tied to me.com email account but can ...

Deleting an account on the iPhone/iPad/iPodTouch doesn't remove that account from Apple ID or iTunes 🙂. Just like removing an email account on your device doesn't destroy your domain or personal email account.

iCloud does use the AppleID for "Find My iPhone" app, so if you change your appleID in iCloud you have to use that appleID to find your device.

My iPhone was tied to my wife's AppleID/iTunes, it is still tied to my wife's iTunes/AppStore account, but for iCloud I use a different AppleID so we keep our contacts/docs/photo streaming different (and the bad thing though is the find my iPhone is tied to iCloud so we have to have two separate accounts for that 😟).
