When you set it up, there was a notice that you couldn't change this once you set it up.
Hopefully they change that, but for now, I believe you're stuck.

So if i want to give my iphone to my wife for example she's stuck with my icloud account unless the device is reset, thats pants!
No - that's not the case. You can log in with a different Apple ID, which you can give a different @me.com address.
The above is theoretical, as I haven't tried it, but it should work. The Apple ID doesn't follow the device.
Hi, can you tell me how to log in with a different address please, as mentioned i can't change my ID the only option is to delete the account but i'm worried this will delete more than the device accoount, i dont want the entire account deleting as i'm using on another device.
That stinks!!! I need to create a new account for my wife becuase using iCloud would merge both our phones data and thats not what we want. And now its too late. One of us is now stuck without iCloud.
To me this is bad design...
Go to iCloud in the settings.
At the bottom of the account there is a big red "Delete Account" button.
Delete it and then enter your new account.
Worked for me!!!
But it says that it will delete everything from the phone that is backed up on iCloud! Is that true??
I don't want to have to create a new apple ID, if I delete the icloud account from the phone will I have to create a new apple ID and cloud account?
I'm having the same problem.....do i click delete from iphone or keep on iphoneafter you click delete account? also.... new icloud account can be made after this...? I also agree... icloud is a bad design the way it's setup. confusing and messed my husbands phone and mine...
Click Delete. It allows you to keep everything on your phone (just click store on iphone). You can create a new apple id or use another one.
but if you delete iCloud account on one particular device, will it delete the whole iCloud account as well? I dont want that as I have other devices.
I had the same problem when I created a new email account. First I changed my user id on my main apple account. This allowed my new email to appear in emails I sent. But it did not transfer to the icloud. Finally, I hit the red delete button, which was followed by a screen that gave the option of retaining on my ipad all of the information that was in the cloud. This seems to have worked but I'll know more in time
If you don't want to delete your iTunes account ... the other option is to "Restore to factory settings" (while connected to iTunes, click on the Restore button in iTunes, or hold both buttons on your iPhone down for 10 sec, then hold just the front button down for 10 sec). Chose "restore to factory settings". You lose all your settings, but at least you can chose a new iCloud ID.
After you've done this, don't restore from a previous backup, or your iCloud ID will go back to what it was before.
There has got to be a better way to do this...
I think this is very confusing 🙂. Hopefully this will help this thread ... (and me if people who know what is really going on can chime in 🙂).
The apple ID is used for logging into iTunes and iCloud. If you want to sync email/notes to iCloud you have to sign up for a me.com email address (which is different also). Your apple ID doesn't have to be tied to me.com email account but can ...
Deleting an account on the iPhone/iPad/iPodTouch doesn't remove that account from Apple ID or iTunes 🙂. Just like removing an email account on your device doesn't destroy your domain or personal email account.
iCloud does use the AppleID for "Find My iPhone" app, so if you change your appleID in iCloud you have to use that appleID to find your device.
My iPhone was tied to my wife's AppleID/iTunes, it is still tied to my wife's iTunes/AppStore account, but for iCloud I use a different AppleID so we keep our contacts/docs/photo streaming different (and the bad thing though is the find my iPhone is tied to iCloud so we have to have two separate accounts for that 😟).
THis worked..
Don't fuss about things being deleted from your iphone.. You probably just set it up that it doesn't have any content that much yet.. but if not.. Sorry you're out of luck..
As the previous posts mentioned.. this is bad design...
