Updated to iOs5 lost everything! Help?

So I updated my phone to iOS5 and this is what happens. I lose everything. Cannot restore from backup, nothing. Heres the rundown :

This is the message I get when I plug it in

"iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iPhone “Gayla's iPhone”. Would you like to restore this iPhone again now?"

So I click "Continue Restore"

Then I get this "An error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-50)" 😠

Whenever I try to restore it from the back up from earlier, it says that it is not compatible and that I cannot use it, or that it is corrupt.

So I click Restore and of course it erases everything (there is nothing on it anyway because it already erased it all)

So we go through that process then I get this :

" The iphone could not be restored. An internal error occured." ( of course it did...)

The back up is on here, because whenever I go into prefference > Devices.. I can see the back up and its what I need but I cannot get it to my phone. How do I get it on there.

I have one idea but I don't know if it's the right one,

Restore it to the older/latest version of iOS that I had (not iOS5) and then restore it from the backup, THEN try to the update again.

Is that right or is there an easier way to do this? Really appreciate your help, as I have lost everything, text message, apps, contacts, pictures. And this is stuff that cannot be replaced.

For those who lost their content you can try this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967

It helped me get my stuff back. But it's only linked to iTunes updated dates, meaning there is a backup only when you updated your iTunes.

Also, to help you out, you can drop your app folder, music, etc. into the Library tab of itunes to update iTunes with your media. It looks like I'm back to normal after I did all this.

I have an iPhone 4S.

Solution to the "lost everything" after the update to iOS 5.0.1

I have a solution to everyone, including for those who doesn't have the "app" button on their sidebar of the iTunes.

I randomly found this solution, and hopefully, it could be of some use.

Step One:

Open iTunes

(I know, this could be a difficult step =P)

Step Two

Open Purchased

(It's locationed on the left hand side of itunes on the sidebar)

Step Three

Click on "Download Previous Purchased"

(Located on the bottom right hand corner of iTunes)

Step Four

Re-download all of your lost files

***INCLUDING*** Music!!

Step Five

Rejoice, for the Lord God almighty is an amazing God to install this part of the program inside the head of the programer!

This case is examplary for the reason why I prefer to manually keep a backup of as much of my iPhone data as possible. I use third-party tools to copy iPhone contacts to my Windows Address Book.

I also force-synced twice with iTunes before I upgraded the iPhone to iOS5. This ensured iTunes made automatice iOS backup twice to ensure I have at least a couple of backup entries of my notes and calendars from which I can choose and that at least a single of my latest iOS backup entries successfully restores after the upgrade.

No need to say that ensuring ALL of the iPhone media tracks are within iTunes is a primary must.

This is exactly the SAME situation that happened to me - do you think that by now, that APPLE would have seen these discussion threads and Installed some kind of FAILSAFE? I cannnot even restore my IPHONE from an old backup - have to call the APPLE GURUS in the morning.

Keep in touch - is your first name Dave? If so, I may be one of your customers that you provided customer support with Microsoft products last year - and yes, losing everything on my IPHONE including your phone number is definitely devastating.

THanks,

Debbie

Those information are personal information, they were not stored into the itunes store, they were only stored into both your iDevice and in backups on iTunes. If you loose both your backups and your storage information on your iDevice, then that information is gone. iTunes can only restore what information it has. Other than your purchased items, I can't see how you could get the rest of your storage information back. I'd suggest that storing personal information onto e-mail would be best, I don't think there's a way to transfere the personal data to your e-mail other than to do that manually, however, if you set up your notes to save to an e-mail, then notes is an exception to this rule that I know of.
