iOS5 bricked my iPad 2 - any suggestions?

I tried to update my iPad 2 to iOS5 like many others today, and while the download went smoothly, the install is where my iPad crashed and burned. An error code- I think it was 3004- popped up, and then my iPad dissapeared from iTunes. I tried reconnecting, rebooting, reinstalling iTunes, but iTunes still won't recognise my iPad. Meanwhile, the screen just shows the Apple logo and an empty progress bar. Won't turn off or load. I guess this is Recovery Mode. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting iTunes to recognise iPads?

I was updating my iPad 1 today, and after long backup procedure, I was given an error message, saying something that iTunes wasn't able to reboot iPad and upgrade cann't be done. So, my first idea was that I almost had no free space, and I deleted bunch of apps that I don't use any more, and after freeing 3GB of space, full cold reboot of the iPad and full reboot of the computer (and after upgrading iTunes) I got the same error message.

So, looks like I was lucky one, since I didn't brick my iPad today :-/ Not going to upgrade for now, will wait until more people get this error, and Apple does something about it.

Things are going a bit more smoothly, and my iPad is out of recovery mode and into iOS5. I just pressed the home and power buttons at the same time, and the iPad was finally recognised and reset. Luckily, I had done a backup just a few minutes before my problem. Error code was actually 300008: Cannot Recognise iPhone.

I just had the same thing occur... went to update my iPad2 with iOS5 and now it will not work. Shows sign to connect to iTunes but when I do so it says it is in recovery mode. When I try to continue with recovery, it says that it could not be restored (error 1611). I have tried all the suggestion, restarted my computer, pressed home&on buttons at same time.. nothing. PLEASE HELP!! 😢

Hi,

I had the same problem and after getting the ipad into recovery mode the PC wouldn't see it. Although I rebooted and reloaded Itunes latest version it still wouldn't see my Ipad. My solution was to use my neighbours laptop which could see my ipad in recovery mode and then after that had reloaded an old IOS, amazingly my PC would then see my Ipad and reload all my settings. May try IOS 5 later when everyone has ironed out the problems.

Apprently my PC has files on it that prevent it seeing my Ipad, someone may know what and where they are.

Cheers

Thanks Apple... My iPad is bricked too.

I started the update process, wasn't looking at the screen the whole time (I am sorry, I must have broken some license agreement by doing that) so I can't tell you exactly what transpired, but suddenly iTunes was trying to restore the ipad. Then a message about an unknown error.

To cut a long story short -- iPad now displays the connect to itune through usb screen (restore screen).

The computer recognizes an apple mobile device, but iTune doesn't.

Nothing works - power-home combos, resets, hard resets, prayers to god.

The **** with you Apple, and your better then thou attitude. Now I have to waste my time going to the Apple store and getting this resolved.

NEVER AGAIN.... NEVER BUY APPLE AGAIN.

Had the same thing. Finally restarted the computer and it worked. I assumed the problem was with my iPad so it didn't occur to me for a long time to restart the computer. It wouldn't even shut down properly but once I rebooted it and restarted iTunes it recognized the iPad and asked right away if I wanted to restore from my last backup. It's still restoring now but I'm hoping it will do the trick. So, I think the issue is with iTunes and not the iPad. I really hope this helps someone else!
