Whenever I turn on restrictions, I'm not able to send/receive any messages in iMessage. The only way iMessage will activate is if I turn OFF all restrictions and activate the service...howeever, when I turn restrictions back on, I'm forced to re-enter my apple id/password and it never connects - just keepsz telling me to check my network connection (which is 100% fine)...

If i set restrictions ON disabling Facetime and Ping y cant use iMessage it says i need to activate it again but it fails. And if i set restrictions OFF everything works.
btw i know that it fails only when you disable Facetime in restrictions
It's really frustrating that I can't enable restrictions without disabling features that I don't want restricted. This is for my 10 year old daughter who we do NOT want using facetime, but would like to be able to have her txt message other ios users in the family.
Why on earth Apple would decide to "lump" these restriction settings in together is not only frustrating but also confusing.
Would be REALLY nice to hear some feedback from Apple on this.
FYI, my problem was slightly different, but might be useful to someone here. I couldn't even turn iMessage ON! For some reason if you enable restrcitions and turn off FaceTime it blocks iMessage as well. I turned FaceTime back on and viola...iMessage works again. Go figure...

I'm having the same issue. I am going to call Apple tomorrow to see if there is a work around. There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to use iMessage with Facetime restricted.
