Since when is "dropbox" a apple service.. ? Get serious.
You do not have to use icloud for iwork on iOS at all. Iwork on iOS has a impressive list of where to store or share your documents even without the icloud.
tap the tools icon in pages/numbers and there is your "print and share" options.
Save the documents to itunes and open them in your PC/Mac. Options include iwork09 /Microsoft Office and PDF formats.
Use itunes on PC/Mac to add files back to the apps . No icloud involved. That's how the 1.4 apps worked by default and this system is still working.
Upload to iwork.com for collaboration / invitation by mail. works with non-apple users as well.
Upload to a webdav server for enterprise usage
Print directly if you own a airprint-compatible device.
So, how is it missing document - access ?
And the apps are stable for me. I use them on iPad2 as well as on my iPod touch. Nothing to complain . I complain only for the icloud mess that documents stored there are deleted randomly, which makes it pointless to use. But as i say : You do not have to store there at all and still get all the goodies in iwork for iOS. These three apps from Apple are among the most impressive ones you find for iOS Devices. I happily paid 24 euros for the full suite. And I use them ever day.

Nov 1, 2011 3:48 PM in response to Rob Weinbergby Straw Bear,Gutted that I fell for "stored on all your devices" - but not SYNCED. I paid for all apps on OSX and feel liked I have let the slightly ambiguous advertising appeal to my excitable side.
No doubt iWork 12 will address these issues and I will no doubt buy them.
Abeit with a bit of lump in the throat.

Nov 2, 2011 6:54 AM in response to Rob Weinbergby ecdc05,Glad I found this so I don't waste my time trying to figure it out - thanks to those of you who have looked into this and explained. Very disappointed and hope it's updated in the future.
I write an awful lot and the simple fact is, being able to sync between an iPad and an iPhone is pretty much worthless. I'm not going to be pecking away on my phone. Being able to sync between an iPad and a MacBook is the real draw here.

Nov 2, 2011 11:01 AM in response to Rob Weinbergby LuisRocha,I found you guys a partial answer.
If you go under ~/Library/Mobile Documents/ you will find the individual folders for Keynote, Pages, and Numbers (after you have opened them in your iOS device, of course). Within each is a folder named Documents. Save your files in there (I saved an alias on my Desktop for easy navigation to it). The apps will pick it up on the next sync. When it syncs, it converts the file to iWork online format. However...
You won't be able to open the file directly from the folder in your iWork desktop program. In other words, you can move the file from Mac to iOS, but not back without downloading it again and resaving in the Mobile Documents folder. Thus my saying it's a partial answer.
If someone comes up with a complete solution, let us know. We might just have to wait until an iWork update. Thanks.

Nov 2, 2011 11:04 AM in response to Rob Weinbergby hhdc,i spent the past two days talking with apple support who were kind enough to explain to me, what i originally had thought was a common-sensical switch from idisk to icloud...not so, as all of the above posters have explained and noticed... idisk worked and i gladly paid for it... albeit, it was only a matter of time before the "could would run out of storage space.." why, however, i would want to a) save my docs in the document folder, then b) work on it and make changes to it on my mac (it is impossible to do so if you have NOT PREVIOUSY copied it to icloud.com) then c) save it to icloud.com, only to be going back to the document folder to make new changes and then repeating the same is beyond any sane reasoning... frankly, i don't get it... whereas, on idisk i had INSTANT access to ALL my documents from ALL devises i now have only access to the documents that i MANUALLY add to icloud... if anyone from apple is listening, i would like to request to not give up on idisk or at least the concept of idisk... yes, i will pay for it, as i will for icloud... but, i will be happier to know that apple is still the leader in making our lives easier not more complicated... icloud, in its current form, does not add to the overall quality of life...

wondering... wondering...

IF they WOULD they would have the same problems...

Nov 2, 2011 1:29 PM in response to hhdcby mlaurencg4,I am compelled to add my voice to this request. While 35 years of computer experience enables me to view the challenge re: Mac iPad iCloud as a minor inconvenience, NOT SO with my clients who have recently purchased iPad 2 (although retired, I am an Apple product coach working with over 150 retirees in our region). These clients who also have Macs at home are not happy with these problems. We all look forward to Apple solving this in the short term!

Nov 2, 2011 2:02 PM in response to mlaurencg4by Catsman,Has Apple at any time acknowledged the problem and /or stated that they are rectifying it? The issue is putting me right off, and cannot recommend the ipad to those who want to use it with their "home" docs on their Macs.

Nov 2, 2011 2:27 PM in response to Rob Weinbergby LuisRocha,I don't believe there has been an official response from Apple on this. I can definitely see the problem with this discrepancy. I'm sure they're already working on a solution for it, though. I hope they build it in a way like Dropbox, where you have a folder within the Documents folder and your synced files will show up in there. I don't see why it would be too difficult to achieve that. I'm hoping this feature will appear on the next update -- or at least add to iWork the ability to read and write directly to/from iCloud.

Nov 4, 2011 6:39 AM in response to Catsmanby chriscarson1,All the talk about creating, uploading, editing, and "beautifully syncing" icloud documents between devices... icloud does not do this. When there is a solution to Catsman's request I will sign back into icloud.com. Meanwhile, googledocs is the best in the cloud.
