Just got off the phone with apple care after an hour wait,The head tech guy told me that there is a problem with AT&T not recognizing SIM cards that have been replaced into your phone. He said that you have to have the original SIM that came with the phone,When this problem first came up,the apple store told me to go to AT&T and replace my SIM card.He also said it has something to do with the phone contract with Apple and AT&T.I have been to 2 different stores and have had three different phones all with the same out come,my phone is still broke!

He also said they are working on a software fix but does not see it happening any time soon.

Why do i have to deal with a problem that has nothing to do with me.Apple and AT&T Fix It.You are costing me money and time and im sick of it!!!!

I had this problem too but now iphone is activated and working fine.Apparently this is due to the replacement iphone, because my service provider fail to update the new replacement iphone IMEI and serial no. onto the apple server. Thus the replacement iphone IMEI,Serial no. and the sim card number does not match with the existing data at apple server. So i would suggest that, ask your service providers to check whether they had updated your replacement iphone IMEI and serial no to your existing SIM card.

I had this problem since the day iOS5 came out. My phone is so essential to my business that I cold not afford to wait even a few hours until it was sorted out. I went out and bought a Samsung Galaxy SII. I'm glad this has happened because it's a far superior phone. I waited until now, over two weeks later, for Apple to recognise the seriousness of the problem and come up with some kind of fix, but after doing yet another restore today, I realised that nothing has been done and nothing is going to be done about it unless I phone them up.

I bought the iPhone in the UK, but shortly before I moved out to Thailand, I had to have it replaced because the home button kept sticking. As has been said in many previous posts, this is where the problem lies. It took me over an hour on the phone to Apple in the UK, calling from Thailand. I did it through Skype which still cost me £5. Imagine how much it would have cost me if I'd have rung direct? (There are no official Apple stores in Thailand)

Apple originally denied that my iPhone had been replaced. They said that the phone I have now is the original phone I bought from Apple and that it was locked to o2 in the UK and that I would have to contact o2 to arrange for it to be unlocked (at a cost of £15). They couldn't explain to me why a phone that was bought direct from the Apple store was locked to o2. Apple don't sell locked phones from their own stores. The guy was very unhelpful and didn't seem to believe a word I was saying. All he kept saying was that he could only go on the information that was in front of him.

I eventually asked to be put through to someone more senior, which he did. In the 30 minutes or so I was on hold, I searched my gmail account and not only found my original receipt from Apple with the serial number of my original iPhone, but I also found the email from the genius bar when they replaced my iPhone, together with the job repair number, or whatever they call it.

Eventually I got through to someone more senior who initially spoke to me with the attitude that I would get no further with him than I did with the previous guy. I explained that I had now found the two emails with all the information on that he required. After giving him what he asked for it still took him over 10 minutes to match it up with his systems. Eventually he agreed that when my phone was replaced, the serial numbers were not updated in their systems. He appologised and said it was an error on the part of Apple and that I'd have to wait 48 hours before the serial numbers could be corrected, and then I would have to do another restore through iTunes.

I'm very annoyed and dissapointed at the whole situation and have lost all faith in Apple over it. Since I bought my Galaxy SII, I've only wanted the iPhone unlocked so that I can sell it in here in Thailand. (Nobody's going to buy it if it's locked to a UK carrier) Once that's done, I'm staying well clear of Apple.

Had a iPhone 4S - working with O2 Germany and Bob.at austria Providers. Now i have a replacement 4S (cuz the old one had some visual hardware production failure, nothing serious). Now, this new iPhone 4S does activate my O2 Germany SIM Card without problems. So the activated phone works well, until i put in the austrian SIM card. Then it falls back into activation mode and says, my SIM card is not valid. ...the card itself should work, because i used it in the original iPhone 4S for about one week and worked perfectly.

Called AppleCare, he didn't know what to do, but i couldn't be bothered to wait 30min for a higher-level technician. So two possibilities left: 1. The phone is f*ked, 2. the SIM card doesn't insert correctly... as i cutted the SIM myself for getting MircoSIM compatibility, this might be a possibility. But as it worked in the other iPhone4S, i can't hardly believe that this is the problem. But i ordered a real micro-SIM now anyway. We'll see. Will also call the high-level-technician tomorrow, they told me perhaps they can reset the server-settings of apple.

lets hope together that this is not a never ending story -.- ...there is hardly any apple product any more, that didn't make any troubles in my household!!!

cheers

Hi,

I just bought an IPhone 4S today and changed the SIM card to micro-sim format, and after I inserted the sim I received the same message "SIM NOT VALID". The phone should not be locked. How do I know if the phone is locked or not and on what network is locked.

The phone is brand new, never been activated and bought it from an online store from my country. So there should be no issues on activating the phone, but still happens.

All,

I had the same problems as listed in this forum (no service, invalid sim, loosing network/carrier connectivity, etc.). So, yesterday (Friday CET) I got hold of a new micro-SIM to see if this would work, as the SIM I used was a normal SIM card cut to micro-SIM size from my old iPhone 3GS.

After running on this for about 24 hours I can honestly say that this has improved my iOS 5.0.1 experience dramatically! I can call people, send SMS, the works... without problems. Been using the phone the whole day.

However, I had 2 drops during calls today, but it's hard for me to blame it on 5.0.1 as the other end of the call might have been on a bad receiption. I experienced also 1 "searching... no service... then back to normal event" during the day, but this was about it. Still, it's a huge improvement compared to when I was running on my old SIM card....as this one kept dropping every couple of minutes due to the "no service" problem.

Just thought I'd let everyone here know this. Perhaps it might be of use to others.
