Lost photos after iOS 5 update?

After updating to iOS 5, my photos were no longer in my camera roll, yet everything else was intact? Any solutions I had over 500 photos and tons of memories. 😢

I have the same problem. I found the 'backup' files that iTunes creates whenever you do stuff, only to discover that only three 'backups' remained; one from 2010 and two from this afternoon, after the iOS5 update.

Does this mean there is no hope for my lost photos and videos??

(Btw guys on this thread, if you want to check your backups go to "C://Users/~Your Username~/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/MobileSync/Backup" and note that AppData is a hidden folder... good luck)

Ok, so I found a solution to my problem (may be problem specific). But after updating to iOS5 I immediatly did the iCloud backup and synced my phone. It wasn't until later that I realized my photos were gone. I then made a foolish decision of restoring my phone a second time only to find out the only backup I had was AFTER the iOS5, thus a backup with no photos. I then remembered the iCloud backup was directly after updating to iOS5 the first time, so I went to Settings>iCloud and saw a backup with a 1GB photo storage. At first I couldn't backup from this iCloud cache because it said it was "incomplete", but I woke up this morning only to find out it was complete (it compelted a 5AM when the intial update was about 7:30 PM). I then restored from the iCloud today and everything is as good as new 🙂

I think I have a further complication. I chose to backup to iCloud, after a while it came back saying I didn't have enough space. So I thought I won't use iCloud for backup. Went into settings to turn this off. Was in the middle of going through the pain of manually reinstalling every missing app from iCloud when I realised I have lost about 100 photos (the most recent ones). This was the same from phone or viewed on PC. When I go into icloud from PC no photos there. When I go into iCloud settings on phone and turn backup back on it tells me there has never been a backup

I am assuming it started the back up, ran out of space. When I switched off backup it removed the files. So it feels like these are lost forever. Just hoping somebody else might know differently.

I had this problem, I downloaded iexplorer to have a look at the contents of the iphone4 - very simple! It seems that during the ios 5 update they moved from "photos" to "DCIM/100APPLE" (expand "MEDIA" to see these folders) I dragged "100APPLE" to desktop and all my pics are there! Very easy - took 5 mins max! thankyou iexporer!
