My MacBook Pro is about 3 years old. It was working fine, then got a busy signal (spinning color wheel) which would not stop. I turned it off - and now it will not boot up. When I power on, I get the apple, then a constant spinning wheel. It will not boot - any ideas?

I just got the same exact problem today with my 2.5-year-old Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. Booting up leads to my desktop background and the spinning color wheel, but nothing else! Very troubling--hope someone can help!
Ditto. Parallels just stopped responding, then quit. Then the os did too. On restart has taken over 10 minutes and still is not up.
Three times in the last year, I have experienced similar issues as you. In each of those times, I ended up with a corrupt partition on my Mac boot volume. I had to reformat the partition and restore from backup to fully resolve in my caes. For a couple of the instsnces, I was able to limp along alittle longer before the reformat by booting from the install media and running a disk verify/repair.
