Problems with IOS 5 Music App

There are several problems with IOS5 Music app that I noticed, (These problems were not present in previous IOS)

1. Slower loading for songs with lyrics - There is a slight (1~1.5) second delay in bringing up new album art/lyrics/etc when switching songs. The way it delays feels very unstable like the app is about to crash.

2. Graphical glitch when loading some songs with lyrics - The area between the section with the progress bar/repeat/shuffle button is and the section with the lyrics become screwed up, the album art and overlay effect in that area become distorted. This goes off when lyrics is turned off by tapping on the screen then bringing it back up. However the problem persists when track is changed.

3. Unnatural scrolling of lyrics - Scrolling lyrics (especailly when I do it fast) feels buggy.

4. CRASHES with some Apple Lossless tracks that causes the springboard to respring - the app crashes with some Apple Lossless tracks. I do not know what is causing the crash. The file is fully tagged with lyrics/albumart. It seems to load and then it lags then crashes. The track played fine in previous versions (4.1 and 4.3.5). I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the file.

5. Apple Lossless tracks very slow to load - Those tracks are just generally slower when loading and the problem with lyrics gets even more severe if the track is Apple Lossless.

*Most of those problems occur in greater severity for Apple Lossless than mp3 files.

Very unhappy about this update at the moment. What's the point of adding all new features if it cant handle the very crucial component...

iPod touch, IOS 5.

I do not dare to compare it with windows 😀 I meant to compare it with Linux -- there I know I need to spend a day with a kernel update if I am unlucky, to get all my stuff working again, but then of course it works much better than Windows 🙂

MacBook and OSX was like a miracle. Until now I had no single problem - not an issue! - with Apple devices (using them only since the Intel era extensively). After Linux the smoothness of an OSX upgrate was like some black magic... I confess, I got spoiled, too. Now both iOS and OSX have issues for me.

So it just makes me sad that we have to make noise, that I actually need to google these problems, etc. I was happy not knowing that this support website exist.

Miracle stood for 4 years and now its broken. 😟 But maybe I was just lucky until now.

I just bought an iPhone 4S - an upgrade from a 3GS. The 4S will not play music properly when connected to my Volvo XC60 via USB. Songs skip and jump all over the place. Very disappointed!! The problem is not present when playing songs through the headphones.

Everything worked fine with my 3GS before but I haven't tested the 3GS in the car after upgrading to iOS5.

Bluetooth phone calls using the 4S seem to be OK in the car though.

Generally, iOS5 on the 3GS seemed OK. The 4S, however, feels unstable with freezing hiccups and apps hanging...

Have you tried resetting your iPhone? You can do this by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/wake switch on the top the iPhone's case and holding them down together for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. Your iPhone should then reset itself. The boot up process takes a few minutes and then it should be responsive again. More here:

That's not normal then. Mine and milliions of other iPhones are running perfectly fine. This thread is about the Music App being problematic and some folks are having trouble with battery life, but not everything to do with their iPhones.

I'd certainly visit a local Apple store or call them becuase if everything is a problem it sounds like it's the phone itself.

My major frustration is that my playlist on the iPod isn't in the same order as in iTunes. Artists are in alphabetical order, but albums seem to be shuffled. Previously, albums were also presented in alphabetical order, as they are on iTunes. Even more frustrating when an album with two CD's is stored as two separate albums [CD1] and [CD2] and they get shuffled to different parts of the playlist and often in reverse order.

I ran into the same aggravating situion with regard to how albums are sorted. I fixed it by going into iTunes and in the first list view (no album covers, etc., just text) I sorted my overall music library as I wanted it as well as each of my smart playlists. IIRC I had to re-sync with my iPad several times, but eventually they all fell in line. A PIA and we shouldn't have to worry about that, but it is what it is for the moment at least.

Hope that helps!

iOS 5.0.1 is in its second beta release and won't go public for a "few weeks" according to Apple. The main focus is on improving battery life for the iPhone 4S. Other than adding multitasking gestures to the original iPad, there hasn't been mention of much else.

We could be pleasantly surprised if they add some tweaks to the Music App, but I would guess they're more interested in resolving the battery issue with the iPhone at the moment.
