Problems with IOS 5 Music App

There are several problems with IOS5 Music app that I noticed, (These problems were not present in previous IOS)

1. Slower loading for songs with lyrics - There is a slight (1~1.5) second delay in bringing up new album art/lyrics/etc when switching songs. The way it delays feels very unstable like the app is about to crash.

2. Graphical glitch when loading some songs with lyrics - The area between the section with the progress bar/repeat/shuffle button is and the section with the lyrics become screwed up, the album art and overlay effect in that area become distorted. This goes off when lyrics is turned off by tapping on the screen then bringing it back up. However the problem persists when track is changed.

3. Unnatural scrolling of lyrics - Scrolling lyrics (especailly when I do it fast) feels buggy.

4. CRASHES with some Apple Lossless tracks that causes the springboard to respring - the app crashes with some Apple Lossless tracks. I do not know what is causing the crash. The file is fully tagged with lyrics/albumart. It seems to load and then it lags then crashes. The track played fine in previous versions (4.1 and 4.3.5). I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the file.

5. Apple Lossless tracks very slow to load - Those tracks are just generally slower when loading and the problem with lyrics gets even more severe if the track is Apple Lossless.

*Most of those problems occur in greater severity for Apple Lossless than mp3 files.

Very unhappy about this update at the moment. What's the point of adding all new features if it cant handle the very crucial component...

iPod touch, IOS 5.

So glad I found this. Updated my iphone 4 32gb last night. everything else is working fine.. except the music app. It plays fine on shuffle for a few minutes then just stops, completely freezes. I closed the application and removed it from running applications, restarted and within a couple of mins it happens again. Also some of the songs are skipping, displaying the wrong artwork and titles.

On the task bar when you go to change track the wrong title appears, and skipping happens frequently.

Why on earth did they update ipod to music when the functionality was perfectly ok before.

Not very impressed.

Yea I did.

I have seemed to fix the issue on my end. Here is what I did.

  1. Hook iPhone up to the computer you sync with
  2. Open iTunes and go to the music tab on your iPhone and uncheck "Sync Music." This will remove all music from your device. Apply changes and sync.
  3. After the sync finishes go back to the music tab and recheck "Sync Music." Apply your changes and sync your music back to your iPhone/iPod.

Hope the above helped. Worked fine for me.

Hi people, I have a problem with the new Music app as well.

You probably know that on iPod Touch, if two tracks have the same "Album" tag but different "Artist" tags, the app's browser will sort them as two separate albums. In iOS 4.3, you could fix this by putting the same "Album artist" tag on both tracks.

Alas, after upgrading to iOS 5, this doesn't work for me anymore. I've tried using the same "Album artist" tag, checking the "Part of a compilation" option, and more, but had no success: if the "Artist" tag is different, tracks with the same "Album" tag will be sorted as different albums. This is trouble for me, as I listen to lots of soundtracks, which usually feature many different artists on the same album. Please note that checking the "Group by album artist" option in Settings does not change this situation. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this?

Funny thing is, on the old iPod Classic the "Album" tag was all the system needed to sort different tracks into a single album.

I have the same issues since I updated my iPhone 3GS and iPad 2 to iOS 5. All of a sudden, my iPad freezes when selecting a play list with about 5000 songs. When selecting other lists with only a few songs, it works fine. My iPhone on the other hand completly freezes when selecting that play list with 5000 songs. The only way to make the Music app work again on the iPhone is to connect to iTunes, unsync and resync. However, the problem will always occur. The only way I found to make it work: only syncing playlist with a few songs (< 100 songs) and only select these. I hope there is gonna be a fix for that asap.
