itunes cant find my phone

when trying to update to ios5 my phone made it to the wipe of the current OS but crashed when it could not finish the update and now is stuck between the startup apple screen and the swirling dial. I cant even try to recover my phone to move on because iTunes cant even recognise my phone. I dont know what hhappened to cause this but it has affected my whole computer as the time across the top of my computer wont even move anymore its just stuck at the time when it crashed. Any advice on how I fix this?
