I'd like to know, how to restart the DNS service on iOS devices iPad/iPhone when the DNS service hangs. Every now and than, one of my iDevices stops connection to any web server. No matter if 3G or WIFI. Every app relying on the connectivity stops working. You just notice, when you don't receive any push info or try to surf a web page.

However, you can sitll surf a web site, using an IP address and not the friendly DNS name. Instead of www.apple.com you could surf to http://123.123.123.123

So it proofs, that DNS is not working anymore. There are one or two other threads I've found so far, but no solution yet. It started with iOS 5.

So far the only cure is restarting the iPhone/iPad. (network resets, restore, etc. all done already...)

There's no specific way to do that exact thing in iOS. However, resetting network settings will help resolve a lot of network-related issues for both Wi-Fi and cellular connections.

Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
