Wireless sync option not available on Itunes 10.5. After updating my iphone to IOS 5, the "sync over wifi" option is not being displayed in itunes.

hi, I managed to update both Itunes and my ios to the latest versions (10.5 and 5 respectively). I'm unable to see the "Sync over wifi" option in itunes. Can anyone help?

iPhone 4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

The thing is.... we couldn't even activate the wifi-sync process because the option is not available in the options section. In order for the charging iOS 5 device to react with itunes in local network, we have to tick the "sync through wifi" option, which is missing. I tried charging using different sources, reinstalling iTunes x 2, Restoring the iPod Touch x 2.

I just heard from two friends in NY that have the same problem. Apple told him it was the overloaded servers and to wait a day or two. I don't think so.

The issue isn't being plugged in to sync, we understand that.

The issue is not having a check box to enable wi-fi syncing.

I did the same thing you guys did, removed and reinstalled iTunes 10.5, restored the iPad etc. No help.

From what I can gather, one of the problems is that the wifi sync does not work with 10.5.8. It looks like the powerpc is not supported. I am running a PowerBookG4 with 10.5.8, iTunes 10.5, Iphone 4 with iOS5. Everything works perfectly except that I don't have the option to sync with wifi in the iTunes menu. Maybe apple will come out with a patch for it but I wouldn't count on it. If you can upgrade to the latest OS, I don't think you will have this issue.

Maybe dumb luck on my part, but i didn't find the sync wifi in itunes either, but I went to my iPad and went to Settings\general and right under bluetooth there is a new button called WIFI Sync. I clicked on that and it took me to then next page that says "Automatically sync with iTunes when your iPad is plugged in to power ad conneced to WI-FI. Then there is a button for Sync Now. I pressed it, and viola, syncing wirelessly.

Could it be that you can only initiate the process from the device rather than iTunes?

That's what I did and it worked.

The iphone works the same way. I can see everything that you just mentioned. The issue is that you have to first check the option box (sync over wifi) in iTunes under the device you are trying to sync. Our problem is that this option is available to check. I posted a link in another thread that states that you have to have the latest version of Mac OS in order to have this feature. PowerPC users can only get up to 10.5.8.

I read on a different website where the beta testers were running into the same problem until they upgraded to snow leopard or lion.

Maybe that's why I got lucky? I have 10.7.2. I have to tell you howeer that I did not check any check box in settings on the Notebook to enable Wifi sync, or in iTunes on the notebook. I did have options when setting up the iPad and I selected sync with computer rather than back up to cloud. Maybe that is another difference? I feel feel fortunate that as I type this my iPad is syncing over wifi and you're all having trouble.

Just to confirm I have iTunes 10.5 MacOSX 10.7.2 and iOS5 installed on the iPad. I'm going to dive in and do the phone now too. I will report any troubles, or pay more careful attention when the iCloud settings and set up come on the screen. Maybe I did something else I don't remember.

One cool thing I did notice right away, not to rub salt on the wound, but while syncing wirelessly I am free to move about the iPad. Meaning under the USB way if you did anything you cancelled sync, but this works in the background freeing me up to not only move around iTunes on the MacBook but also move around the iPad an wait and wait and wait for the sync.
