My iMessage still says "Waiting for activation..."

Updated to iOS5 around noon today. My iMessage still says "Waiting for activation...", someone told me there was a email I was supposed to receive. I never got one. How do I get Apple to resend said email, or more to the point - activate iMessage on my Telus iPhone 4?

I had this problem out of the blue today and tried a bunch of different fixes. What ended up working for me was to "re-activate" my phone. I can see there are various different providers that you all are using. I have a US Verizon Wireless iPhone 4S and I re-activated it on my own by dialing *228. Once the automated programming completed I re-enabled iMessage and FaceTime and they both worked beautifully. Hope this helps!

i click on my imessage and it says get started so i press it. it asks for my apple id so i login. it asks that do i want my email adress to be the one that i use during imessage. i press next. then i goes back to the 2nd page whereit asksfor my apple id but everything is filled in. i try it several times but it still doesnt work.

i know i havent got my apple id and password wrong because it works when i install of the app store.

what shall i do?😕😕😕

In my case I had to try something different to make it work:

Symptoms:

  • iPhone waitng and waiting for activation of iMessage
  • Able to receive iMessage at my AppleID, but not my phonenumber
  • No phone number listed when the phone was connected to iTunes
  • Problems started after SIM change

Common heard resolutions that didn't help:

  • Set phonenumber under settings->phone->My Number
  • Turning iMessage on/off
  • Turning the phone on/off
  • Resetting network settings (Setting->General->reset->Reste Network Settings)
  • Restoring the phone via iTunes
  • Putting the SIM in another iPhone

What DID help:

Putting the SIM in a old (Nokia in my case) phone, and take a look at 'my phone number' in the addresbook (set the phone number if nessecary). This seems to update the phonenumber on the SIM, iMessage will activate fine hereafter.

I have the solution just go to setting/store/apple id/ view apple id/edit payment information and there put your phone number correct then save it and go back to imessage or facetime turn it off and back on and it will be done 🙂

Thanks Kildares, this was the issue on my wifes iPhone 4. The Mobile No was incorrect and as soon as i changed it both Facetime and iMessage activated straight away. 🙂

My iMessage still says "Waiting for activation..."
