My iMessage still says "Waiting for activation..."

Ahal10, I have installed iOS5 and have encountered the exact same problem as you did 3 days ago .. as in My sim card is not being read "No Service" and I have tried re booting my iphone 3gs.. alto resotring it with the iOS5.. repeatedly.. just wondering what you did to fix it??

Had the same problem. Ejecting the sim card tray and reinserting it got i0S5 to finally accept my cell phone number in iMessage.

It's not working for me.. Still "Waiting for activation"....

Updated mine, with no problem, My wife also was OK, but my Daughter received the same message "Waiting for activation"!!!.. I had to disable iMessage, so she can text. I am hopping for a near future fix from apple..

I have the same issue and tried about EVERYTHING in this thread.. It's really really annoying..

Another weird thing is that when I did all those fresh restores... Every time my apple id was already entered in the set up of ios5, bizarre..

same problem here (3GS), but i found out that i can send iMessage although it says "waiting for activation.."

i went to Contacts, found myself in it, went to Send Message and iMessaged myself 🙂

so i can do it regulary, you should try that too..

I have the same issue. And the mtc users seems to working just fine. Maybe its an carrier problem

I had the same problem as all of u but after reinstaling and recovering all i turnd on imessage and it says on now i have some questions becouse i didint revive any mail or anything

#1 it says imessage can be sent between iphoneipad and ipod does that meen its on?

#2 can i sent free sms to my gf in swe now seeing how she also has a iphone but hasnt turnd on this feature yet?

#3 is there a way to check if all of this works 🙂 🙂 w/o send anything for now

I did same.. and... now is working... BUT, in my contact nobody is not recognized like iMessage user... And I am registered only with my e-mail (Apple ID), not with my phone number....

FYI:

If anyone who is experiencing issues with activating their phone number in iMessage, if you happen to have an iPhone 3GS with 'iPad Baseband' 6.15.00 you will NOT be able to do it - you will have to use your Apple ID for iMessage if this is the case.

I'm not saying everyone here necessarily has this, but just letting those that do know that they won't be able to activate iMessage with their phone number, despite hacktivating the device and iOS 5.

For those who can't seem to send via Text, just send your messages initially as iMessage (I believe this is the default if your iPhone detects the recipient to have an Apple ID). After sending, click on the message you just sent and an option to "Send as Text Message" should appear. Choose this and the blue message balloon should change into green.

I've a 3GS. How do I know if it has the iPad Baseband version you just mentioned? Any particular reason why this prevents the activation?

I have a iPhone 4, so this does not apply to me, I'm still getting the same problem though.

Just won't activate. Can this have anything to do with server load? I don't think apple's overloading now but who knows..?

It seems you can still iMessage even if it says "Waiting for activation" (I tried testing this with my officemate and he received my messages successfully; he was also able to send messages to me using my Apple ID).

Only when the iMessage option specifically says "Activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again." will you be disallowed to use iMessage and default to using Text messaging instead.

Yes, it's known that it's possible to iMessage with the Apple ID when it's not activated.

But this creates a secondary conversation for the reciever.

We all just want our phone numbers to be activated like they should be.
