3.2 image rendering issues when cropping and straightening

Upgraded to 3.2 - all works well so far but have noticed that the top 1/3rd of image disappears during the cropping and straightening processes in the viewer window, but only with portrait/vertically oriented images. Anyone else have that issue?

I experienced a similar problem. Portrait oriented images were being "cropped" in the viewer window whenever I wanted to use the alignment or cropping tools. The image was intact but the top 50% or so was grayed out. I trashed my Aperture preferences file (Users/your name/Library/Preferences/Aperture/com.apple.aperture.plist) and this seemed to cure the problem. It seems that the update for one reason or another corrupts the plist file.

Deleting the PLIST file made things worse for me. I'm running 10.7.2.

Whether it was the direct cause or not, after deleting the PLIST file, my files began to all reset their crops to the incorrect way they were looking during export. I noticed that exported images were not matching the crops I have defined, which led me to this discussion thread.

I immediately quit Aperture to stop this, as I have 160,000 files in my library, and the last thing I want is for them to all have their crops set incorrectly!

Another odd thing I noticed was that the files that had been rotated show the image rotated without the edges cropped parallel and perpendicular to the screen. This is the first time I've ever seen this in Aperture. Normally, a rotated image will auto crop to fill the image to keep its edges square to the screen.

@A Fisher, have you tried turning off Onscreen Proofing in the View menu? Also, have you made a backup and gone through the Troubleshooting Basics?

@Radek - deleting the plist simply resets your preferences back to default. The file is recreated when you open Aperture again. Onscreen Proofing allows you to look at your images with different color profiles. Having said that, I would start by toggling off Onscreen proofing if it is on.

I'm not using Onscreen Proofing. It's off.

I have escalated this matter with Apple senior technical support. I was on the phone with them for over an hour today. They can recreate one of the two issues I'm having. I've sent them some screen shots and sample images, and they're analyzing the situation.

I do have a backup, but my two main libraries consist of over 160,000 images, so doing a restore is a multi-day ordeal. Right now I'm stuck in the water with images that need to get out today 😟

If you are reading this and are concerned, I suggest that you stick with 3.1.3 until these probelms are are resolved. 3.1.3 was very stable and predictable for me.
