I can't sign into iCloud via windows control panel

When I try to log in, I get an error message reading 'you can't sign in because of a server error'.

I'm no computer whizz and this has got me stumped. I've tried turning off firewall, closing all other programs and restarting the computer with no luck :-/

Any help appreciated,

Thanks, Lucy

Well I have now read all these solutions and none seem to work for me. I have no Mobileme account, there is not the file mentioned in the c:\user\appsdata\roaming mentioned previously.

I can get it all to work woth a new user but of course all my files etc are in my normal current user. Some setting somewhere is wrong but I have no idea what or where. Apple have no idea what is wrong either! I have turned stuff on and aoof, rebooted etc etc etc but no joy.

Perhaps I will just not use iCloud and manage other ways, but it doesn't make me happy!

yep, same as me. There is no doubt something in a setting or a process or service running which stops it connecting. Someone soemwhere must know whats going on very disappointed Apple can't solve this. Having the icloud facility on my PC was one of the deciding points about purchasing an ipad - now it doesn't work I am having to do workarounds. Not really satisfactory.

My problem is a little different. I go to icloud.com, send in my username & password and it logs me in no problem. Then it goes to the next screen where I pick a time zone then all of a sudden it goes to a search page. I have the control panel on my computer but I can't log into the actual website. I go to the website on my iphone 4s and it says "install on this device" then takes me back to a page of instructions. I DON'T GET IT!!!!

Hi There,

I'm getting an eror message when I try to sync the iCloud control panel with my outlook 2010(calendar and tasks)

The error I get is the following: "Your set up couldn't be started because the iCloud server stopped responding"

Could it be from the fact the my compnat uses a Websense / Proxy server client, do I need to make any modifications in the control panel to add that proxy, in order to connect to the internet?

Any help will be highly appreaciated.

PS: I also tried a couple of the solutions presented here, none worked.

Yeah, when I sign into iCloud Control Panel on a PC it says my name and password is not a valid account, but is a valid Apple ID. This is despite me creating an account in iTunes and giving my Visa Card details. Their service is useless. An iTunes account and Apple account are the same thing!

Surprise, surprise, Apple is just as **** useless as Microsoft.

Apple's website sends you round in circles. You have to find out how to create an account in a Google search. In this case it seems Google is the winner. Good on yah Google. You will prevail.

I am runing Windows Vista SP2 and I was having the same issue. "you cant sign in because of a server error" I downloaded Safari for windows and installed it. I checked the checkbox that wanted to make Safari my default browser and finished the install. I opened the iCloud control panel and signed in without any issues. I have been reading this thread on and off for several months trying to solve my issue. I do not remember who suggested installing Safari, but for me that was the long awaited answer! I hope this helps other users.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why can't Apple un-F this problem???? It is affecting hundreds of their customers and they have not said a freaking word about it. I guess they don't give 2 shisters about all us common folk who keep their doors open. I have been a loyal MAC guy for 10+ years and a MobileMe/iCloud guy for 6+ yrs. The headaches with iClou are getting tooooo frequent and painful. Why the FFFF can't I log into the iCloud web app from an XP machine running IE8??????? I would like an answer from Apple, but since pigs are more likely to fly out of my ArSe, I would appreciate any feedback from someone who has the "ACTUAL" answer to this (and no.....Apple is "On It' does not count, because I know they are not.

Windows XP is not supported, upgrade your copy of Windows to 7

This is a reply to all:

I had the same problem, had connection months and months ago then lost it and was unable to connect iCloud to my Outlook folders. Spinning wheels, denial on Apple's part and anger on mine.

Today it worked: Computer failed Thursday, setting up new machine I installed Outlook and opened it without an email account and with the default new Outlook pst account only. Downloaded iCloud Panel and set it up with my primary @icloud account. It worked. Afterward i moved my stuff over from old Outlook.pst account and opened all my email accounts. Everything still working. A pain to do but i am a much happier boy today.

I had been having the "can't log on to server" problem for a couple of weeks. I Thought I would post my fix. I determined that a program I loaded, HTTP Debugger by MadeForNet, nust have been in conflict. Even though I had not even used the software or turned on any of the functionality, it apparently was causing my problem because when uninstalled, iCloud worked fine. Others may want to check for installed network monitors or analyzers, or similar packages.
