Q: I can't sign into iCloud via windows control panel

When I try to log in, I get an error message reading 'you can't sign in because of a server error'.

I'm no computer whizz and this has got me stumped. I've tried turning off firewall, closing all other programs and restarting the computer with no luck :-/

Any help appreciated,

Thanks, Lucy

This is a reply to all:

I had the same problem, had connection months and months ago then lost it and was unable to connect iCloud to my Outlook folders. Spinning wheels, denial on Apple's part and anger on mine.

Today it worked: Computer failed Thursday, setting up new machine I installed Outlook and opened it without an email account and with the default new Outlook pst account only. Downloaded iCloud Panel and set it up with my primary @icloud account. It worked. Afterward i moved my stuff over from old Outlook.pst account and opened all my email accounts. Everything still working. A pain to do but i am a much happier boy today.

I was able to log in with in a browser but not from icloud.  reading this thread I did the following

I pulled up a command prompt, typed in netsh winsock reset

    Restarted and boom working!

I would try this before anything else!

I had been having the "can't log on to server" problem for a couple of weeks.  I Thought I would post my fix.  I determined that a program I loaded, HTTP Debugger by MadeForNet, nust have been in conflict.  Even though I had not even used the software or turned on any of the functionality, it apparently was causing my problem because when uninstalled, iCloud worked fine. Others may want to check for installed network monitors or analyzers, or similar packages.

I have followed this thread for a long while. A very long while. I have made and lost friends during this time. Countries have risen and countries have fallen.

And still nothing- NOTHING- from Apple to help with this problem. Its quite disgraceful.

To summarise people's solutions- some have found that other apps, when removed, have been the cause. Some, like me, have found that creating a brand new windows user will allow them to sync- but that is not a solution, as it is not easy to transfer stuff from one user to another.

On the other hand, I have now fixed it for me, and what I did was this:

I upgraded my machine from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Not even a fresh install- a standard upgrade did the trick.

To be honest, I had long ago thought this is one of those things that would never get solved. But now, my life is complete- I can now sync my **** photostream with my computer. It might seem petty, and indeed, to Apple it must have been, due to their total lack of response to the problem. But now I can make use of the iCloud I am already paying a yearly fee for.

iCloud is a free service, there is no yearly fee.

Of course you are right. I was referring to the yearly fee for iTunes Match. Thanks for focussing on that and not the solution.

Of course, I was tempted to buy this particular iPhone because of the iCloud features it has, so I am in fact paying a monthly fee for the priviledge, but unlike you I don't like to quibble.

I dislike false information, especially when it can tend to mislead other posters into mistaking iTunes for iCloud. You however may continue to misunderstand for your own use.

Surely you mean iTunes Match, rather than iTunes? I would hate it if you were to mislead other posters.

iTunes Match is a service in iTunes, as you well know. You are a waste of my time, have a nice day

You too, my friend, you too. Before you go, though, let me throw this quote at you from the iTunes Match webpage, https://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

"With iTunes Match, all your music — even songs you’ve imported from CDs — can be stored in iCloud". So you see, despite it being, in one sense, a feature of iTunes, it is also, in another sense, a service provided by iCloud. I pay a yearly fee for my use of iTunes Match which is provided by something Apple likes to call 'iCloud'. So I think I'm not too far off.

But to go back to the solution- I just upgraded to Windows 8 and it started to work.
