Q: I can't sign into iCloud via windows control panel

When I try to log in, I get an error message reading 'you can't sign in because of a server error'.

I'm no computer whizz and this has got me stumped. I've tried turning off firewall, closing all other programs and restarting the computer with no luck :-/

Any help appreciated,

Thanks, Lucy

I have seen that before, and it is misleading, but I can understand the confusion. The fact is that you do not need an iCloud account at all in order to use iTunes Match, and if you do have one none of your iTunes music will be housed there (easy to check, just go to System Preferences>iCloud, click the 'Manage' button and check the storage used in each category), there is no category for iTunes or iTunes music.

It really is stored in iCloud- Apple's cloud platform. Whether it is included in your storage limits is another matter.

Incorrect, it is stored in iTunes Cloud storage which is independent of iCloud, please don't add to the confusion here. If you don't believe you can check, sign out of iCloud, your iTunes music will still be available

i do not wish to add to any further confusion. I am able to sign into this forum with my apple ID . iam not able to sign into the windows control panel with it .i am able to sign into Icloud .com on the web with the same Apple ID .this only produces a spinning circle for me when i try to log into the windows control panel .

if i understand you correctly if i upgrde to Windows 8 this may resolve my problem .

Please start your own thread, your issue is unrelated to this topic.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. iTune's Cloud storage is part of all the Apple Cloud storage, which together Apple likes to call 'iCloud'. iCloud is a range of cloud based services- and iTunes Match is just one of those. In fact, if you go to Apple's iCloud website (http://www.apple.com/icloud/) and follow the links, you'd see that it was so.

To be honest I'm happy to go with the nomenclature Apple are happy to use.

    Yes, Robinfromguildford, this is correct.

Not wanting to create confusion, my a**e. Read the topic title and his post- it is totally this topic.

Yes, if you couldn't sign in to iCLoud in Windows control panel, upgrade to Windows 8 as it solved it for me. I can't guarantee it though.

I'm not aiming to, so don't wait up.

However, those of you who actually have the problem, rather than people who fundamentally don't understand what 'iCloud' is and/or don't even know what the topic of this thread is, give it a try, because it might just work.

This for me ended up being an id and password issue.   My icloud console user id is not the same as my apple id.   I could alway log into the icloud on the web with my apple id.   How this happened I'm not sure.   It's been so long sinceI set up the accounts.   I only had trouble when  got a new pc and wanted to enable photo stream.  Once I figured this out I was able to log right in.   I don't know why it wouldn't give a different error then can't connect to server.   I found this while looking and I read several pages in but not all of it.   So if this has already been brought up and I'm repeating.   I'm sorry.

    I have same issues.

    Setup is:

    windows 7 32 bit

    outlook 2010

    Control Panel 2.1.2

Am accessing a corporate Exchange server using proxy settings

Have never used / installed MobileMe

Whenever i run CP, just get the spinning wheel

I know it is getting as far as authenticating my account with Apple as - if I enter the iCloud password incorrectly - it tells me so.

    I have tried resetting winsock

I have allowed all of the named Apple services / processes through my Windows firewall

If I create a new user profile on my PC then it works first time but this is not an option for me as I need it to work in my current profile.

    Anyone got any further ideas?

Anyone from Apple Support listening to this thread?

Yes the very same Apple ID that enables me to sign in and reply to your message is not accepted by the windows control panel although curiously when i go to icloud .com I can log in to Icloud. I have thus never been able to complete the set up of Icloud on my pc as i cannot use the icloud control panel as i cannot log into it.

    thanks

Exactly the same here. I know the iCloud credentials are fine. It is obviously conflicting with something in my local Windows profile but nobody appears to know what...
