Something just dawned on me...are you all sending to other iCloud-enabled people? The invites I'm trying to send are to my wife, and she hasn't enabled her iCloud/me.com account yet...
Ah ha!!

Calendar invitations sent to email addresses not associated with an iCloud account may not have been delivered. Affected users may need to re-add invitees to events created during the time indicated above. Normal service has been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience.

So it's a known issue...I shoulda checked there first...

Kasper, thanks for the "heads up!" I just tried it several times and it now WORKS! Must have been an iCloud issue since I haven't changed anything on any of my devices.
thanks,
Jim

still having this issue...i want to be able to use my original email--not the @me.com account...i want to use iCloud too. thoughts???
this is what it's saying...
Access to “____” in “____” in account “iCloud” is not permitted.
The server responded:
“403”
to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.
I have the same problem and it is frustrating. I was using outlook calender for work meetings. i cloud has erased my entire outlook diary and I cannot send invitations via ical. It is making me look completely unprofessional and backwards.
jmb667, I don't understand what precisely you did to rectify the situation. Please could you explain in an easy step-by-step way. Tx 🙂
I actually didn't do anything, it just started working one day; looks like it was a bug on Apple's side. Try turning off the sync settings, perhaps, and see if that works.
I "chatted" with tech support today and as silly as it seems, in order for the recipient to be able to add the invitation to their calendar, they must have an iCloud account and have installed iCloud panel.
How Apple is expecting recipients behind firewalls, exchange servers or restricted office environments to accept any invitations is beyond me. Used to work fine with MobileMe but to take away a basic feature, ability to invite others, OSX or WinTel, is CRAZY!!!
No matter what I try I can't get them to go out. Tried from my iPhone, Outlook and the iCloud website. Nothing... of all the challenges with iCloud this one is the most frustrating to me.
I am having the same issue and have posted on many threads. I have tried sending invites from icloud.com, my iPhone, iPad and from my MacBook Air using ical and nothing works. I have even enabled sending myself an email when invitations are sent using the icloud.com preferences and this still does not work; even I am not getting these invitation emails.
My recipients are a mixture of @mac.com, @me.com and commercial addresses that have not associated their email address with an AppleId.
I have tried deleting icloud from every device, rebooting and readding icloud. Still nothing. I am so bummed... this worked perfectly on MobileMe- if you can believe that.
I have figured out that if the invitee's email address is in my address book, the invitation will not go out, however if the email address is NOT in my address book it does go out. It doesn't matter if I type out the address or use the "+" feature: if the address is in my address book it won't go.
