I have upgraded to ios5 and although there were a few glitches (deleted all my apps) it all seems to work, EXCEPT there is no camera icon on the lock screen. Yes I've tried double tapping the home button. It only opens up the Music controls. I tried resetting the iPad but that didn't work. I could try to re-install ios5 but I don't know how to do that...back to iTunes and do a restore? Will I lose all my apps again?

Is the camera app still on your iPad? (Tip: from your home screen, swipe to the left and type "camera" in the search box). If it's there, you should be able to move it to where you want it. If not, try deselecting/reinstalling via iTunes.
I have updated my subject to be a little more clear. I have the Camera app, but it's not showing on the lock screen after the ios5 update as it should be. On the lock screen you're supposed to be able to double click on the home button and it will show up, but it does not.
The camera icon in the lock screen is only for iPhone users. It will not appear on any other iOS device.
Interesting. I wondered if this was the case and couldn't find any documentation to that effect. I also saw from some iPad owners who claimed they had that icon, although maybe I'm wondering if they were confusing the Picture Frame icon. iPod users are also saying they have it on their screen. Where are you finding this documentation that it's not available?
The iPhone and the iPod Touch have much higher qualty cameras. The iPad cameras are mostly for video use with Face Time.
It seems pretty explicit to me that it is an iPhone feature, but may also work well on the iPod Touch;
You know, I really wish they would just have a grid of features and devices and show which features work with which devices, instead of leaving it up to us to figure out and think something's wrong, etc. It's like they infer things but don't explicity give the information. Thanks for your help!
i have all 3 devices and only my iphone has the camera icon in the lock screen they all have ios 5. i also asked a apple store genius when i was at the apple store today and they said iphone only

jbirds, I have to disagree with you partly now. I have just finished updating my son's ipod to iOS5 and it for sure has the camera icon on the lock screen. So it seems that just the device that you wouldn't likely pull out of your pocket and want to snap a quick picture does not have the camera icon on the lock screen. Still, why would Apple go through the trouble of disabling it? If no one was using it, it's not like there would be any harm in still having it there. Seems like more trouble to take it out than keep it. Just my opinion.

No trouble at all, just a couple of lines of code to tell it to load, unless it is a particular device.

There is never any list of everything that is NOT avaiable. However, the documentation about the camera improvements for the iOS5 update tells what IS available:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1456 states, in part:
Double click the home button when device is asleep to bring up a camera shortcut on iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
iPad is absent from the list, so Apple is not promising the camera shortcut on iPad.
Thank you. Didn't see that list, although now that I think about it, it must be the same list that pops up when you go to update IOS that talks about 200 improvements. Thanks for the shortcut.
