Folders: LOCAL, MSHOME,WORKGROUP why do they show up (sometimes)

Sometimes when I go to my network icon I can see the other computers that are on my LAN but then all of a sudden I get these folders that seem to "override" the current screen. Then all of the computers on my LAN end up in the "local" folder?

I have a DSL Modem connected to a linksys Router (that has both mac and pc's connected to it via cable) and the Airport plugged into the linksys with DHCP on tcp/ip and about 15 macs on wireless.

I figured it out...for those of you that would like to know the answer.

both the linksys and the airport had DHCP on....they where in constant conflict. I did the following:

1. Changed the LAN IP address of the Linksys to something other then 192.168.1.1 (I used 192.168.1.49 no specific reason other then we will never have more then 40 wireless users)

this way the Linksys and the Airport will not try to use the same LAN IP address

2. Turned off the DHCP server in the linksys router (so its basicly an expensive hub)

If you turned off DHCP i the Linksys router, how do the Windows machines get an IP adddress now?
MSHOME, Workgrop, and Local are workgroups on your network and MSHOME is the default for Windows and Workgroup is the default for Macs. Local, is the computer you were working on. would think for your system to work right, the internet connection needs to go to the AEBS, then on to the router in order for the Windows machines to get an IP address.

You might want to change all of your computers to the same workgroup.

Thats a good point but my theory (which is working) was that the DHCP server in the AEBS would supply the IP. My PC is able joint the network via wireless and see the internet. So it seems to work fine.

Is the DHCP server in the AEBS not intended to issue IP's to Windows systems?
