SMS messages not matching a contact's mobile number

I am having the problem decribed here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2326. None of this seems to help, except, I do not want to save the contacts with double entry with and wihtout country codes, in my case +960.

This was only found in my carrier early stage of iOS, when it was in 2.0, if i remember it correctly. This was never an issue until now, in iOS 5 it hits again.

Contacts are saved with out the country code before and it worked perfectly. However, I have tried both way, with and without country code, does not help.

Moreover, I have been using iOS Beta from the begining of the development of iOS 5, and I kept reporting the bug. Now, this is ridiculously annoying to get SMS and not showing the contact number.

I have noticed that, since the Beta, when setting up the iPhone after the restore, iTunes pops up a message that reads "iTunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for you iPhone error encountered (1630).

What do you guys think? 😕

Same boat here.

I am in Angola at the momment with an unlocked iPhone 4 running iOS 5 with a local SIM.

As all my numbers for Angola have the +244 prefix whenever someone calls me all I see is the number calling and not the contacts name.

When they send me a message I see the contacts name without a problem. When I did the iOS5 upgrade I also received the error regarding the carrier settings.

iMaF, all my contacts are always in country format: Maldives, now and before in MobileMe. I have reset the contact formats to Maldives and have resynced the Contacts with no luck. When I receive a text message, it does not pickup the contact's name unless the contact is saved with +960.

Shouldn't Dhiraagu push a network update?

Summary: Incoming calls show up only as phone numbers, not with the caller's name.

Steps to Reproduce:

1) On your iPhone, save a person's phone number in Contacts with the country's dialing code in front (+ZZZ-XX-YYYYYYY, where +ZZZ is the country code, XX is the carrier, YYYYYYY is the person's phone number);

2) Make a call from that person's device/number to your iPhone;

3) On your iPhone, while ringing, shows the above number without +ZZZ and without the person's name.

Expected Results: No matter how the number is saved (as +ZZZ-XX-YYYYYYY or simply as XX-YYYYYYY) the caller ID should always show up, as in previous iOS editions.

Actual Results: Caller ID does not work as expected and as in previous iOS versions.

Notes: When I receive voice calls, the number comes in without the country dialing code in front, simply appears as XX-YYYYYYY (where the XX is the carrier code and YY is the number) and the caller's name does not appear. In my address book ALL my contact's telephone numbers are preceded with the corresponding country dialing code, because i travel a lot. If I delete the country code from a contact's phone number, and that number calls me, then the person's name appears. I'm am in Angola (country code +244) using iPhone 4, iOS 5, carrier: UNITEL (92)

On the other hand, SMS's are OK, i.e. the Caller ID is linked to the phone number and shows up (because SMS's are receiver with the country dialing code in front of the phone number, p.ex. +244-XX-YYYYYYY).

It has something to do with the Carrier Settings Update as in iTunes i get the error message 1630 which states that: "iTunes could not check for un update to the carrier for your iPhone. An unknown error occured (1630)."

Thanks

1) Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.

2) When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"

3) Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating something like, "Settings updated."

4) Open the Task Manager and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications

5) Wait a few minutes (I waited 3 just to be extra safe)

6) Open the Message App to verify the fix

I had this problem after replacing my Iphone 3g with the new 4. The problem appears to be related to IOS version 5 and the icloud function. The guy at the verizion store backed up the phone with the cloud off and then reset the phone then restored it. Cloud somehow turned itselff back on but when we turned cloud off then the contacts and phone number matched.
