iOS 5 iPhone update Ringtones won't sync

After the 10.5 update and the iOS5 update on my iPhone my ringtones won't sync! Anyone else have this issue?

I am having the same problem. I updated to iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5.0 on my iPhone 4 and now my custom ringtone will not transfer over. It shows up in iTunes and is checked off, but will not show up on my phone. I also have the exclamation marks that StarryNAustin has.

Come on Apple. Fix this. I guess this is what I get for upgrading so soon and not letting them work the obvious bugs out first.

😠

Hey guys...this same thing happened to me when ios4 came out. All I had to do was uncheck all ringtones in iTunes....synced up my phone (clears it out, I guess). Then I went back and rechecked them...synced my phone up again...and they returned. A couple o fdays ago the same thing happened and I did this fix and now it's all there. Hope this helps.

I tried the above technique (uncheck, sync, check, sync) but it did not work. (iPhone 4, iTunes 10.5 running in OS X 10.6.8) It worked great in iOS 4.x

The ringtones (under the iPhone at Devices) are showing up in gray. Also, the Ringtone category at the top middle of the screen is missing. (Summary Info Apps Music, etc.) Weird.

I've tried restoring (as new iPhone) twice, un-installing iTunes 10.5, deleting all iTunes .plist files, re-installing iTunes but no luck. It just does not want to do custom ringtones (accept .m4r files).

i've got the same problem, but don't understand your comment. You mean the ringtone shown on the iphone? There's only one checked and you can't uncheck it. There's no ringtone tab on my itunes, so it's not clear what you mean. Thanks.

But i agree it was a big mistake to upgrade so soon. a ton of other problems besides the ringtones. But the ringtones issue is terrible. Actually i can see the ringtones on the list for each name and they play in the edit menu, but after saying "done' it always defaults to the default ringtone

I have the iPhone 4, upgraded to iOS 5 one day after it came out. My ringtones also were not synching.

Go to iTunes > Devices (iPhone) > Ringtones > uncheck Sync Ringtones, then sync. After sync is compete, go back into iTunes > Devices (iPhone) > Ringtones > check box to Sync Ringtones, then sync phone.

This returned my ringtones to my iPhone 4.

figured it out

in the ringtones section on iTunes (not under my iPhone) i noticed that i had exclamation marks next to all of my ringtones. you have to double click on each one and locate your ringtone (for some reason it has lost the link to the original). if you cannot locate, try using your spotlight search to find them and click on it - you may get a duplicate in your ringtones, but you can just delete the one that doesn't work.

once you found them all, then do the uncheck sync, check sync (as stated above) and they're all back
