2 iClouds, 2 iPhones, 1 Mac, 1 address book...lion

Hello,

Has anyone here setup using two iCloud accounts (for two different users) on one Mac etc yet? I want to know how it works.

- I have my iPhone, and I sync my calender from iCal to iCloud and my contacts to iCloud (Safari on my Mac and my iPhone with iOS5)

- My girlfriend will be using iOS5 on her iPhone, and sharing my calender (which I will share from my iCloud) and syncing her contacts to her own iCloud (She uses Firefox)

- We currently use the same address book, but with groups setup for my contacts and her contacts. After getting iCloud setup on my iPhone last night, I now have her contacts on my phone too, but I just view me group (which works fine).

My question is will there be any syncing issues when she connects her iPhone up (it's not on iOS5 just yet) and iTunes starts to look and sync at Lion (with iCloud update) address book?

Sorry this is a little confusing, basically, will this work between one mac, two iphones and two iClouds? We don't want to lose our contacts, but we do want to seperate iCloud accounts.

and a partridge in a pear tree! haha j/k I feel ya I think it may be an issue of trial and error. You wont ever lose anything since iCloud is simply another internet site.

I said this earlier, but I do it again:

What we do is the following: we have 3 accounts. One for my wife, one for me and one that basically stores our calendars and address book. Each of us syncs the emails, bookmarks, with the personal account, and calendar and address book with the third account. That's quite sweet.

OK Cool.

How do you go about setting that up in the first place? i.e. when updating and syncing her iPhone to get iOS5.

Basically I don't want to lose my parnters contacts tonight when I sync it to iTunes.

Probably best is to export contacts and ical as archives. Set up the third account and import contacts and ical. Check whether everything is there. Then sign in with your account as the primary account, set things you want to sync such as bookmarks, notes, whatever. Make this for both devices. Then setup the third account as second account on both devices and enable only sync for calendars and contacts. That should be it.

Just click 'add accounts' in 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' (system preferences).

My iPhone

Bookmarks and Photos - My iCloud account (iCloud account A)

Contacts and Calender - Shared iCloud account (iCloud account C)

Partner iPhone

Bookmarks and Photos - Partner iCloud account (iCloud account B)

Contacts and Calender - Shared iCloud account (iCloud account C)

Is the above correct?

On our Macbook Pro in iTunes?

What happens here with syncing? Does iTunes no longer sync calenders and contacts? Will it cause issues?

That's correct. Just make the same on the MacBook. iTunes is no longer necessary to sync. It's all done by iCLoud.

OK cool. Should I make the accounts on my Mac within preferences, or on the iCloud site? Or doesn't it matter?

Also, you can only be signed into one iCloud account at once on the Mac can't you?

No, you can sign in to multiple account. Sign in with you personal account in 'iCloud'. Then go to 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' and set up the other/more accounts. The moment you do it, you'll see how simple it is.

OK.

I have created a second account, which is actually a "secoondary" account, allowing only Address Book and Calender (and mail/notes which I dont need).

My own iPhone now sees both of the iCloud accounts - good..

But, the address book on my mac Now has different sections in it:

iCloud

- All iCloud

iCloud

- All iCloud

- Group 1

- Group 2

(Group 1 and 2 are our split groups from before)

How do I put the Group 1 and 2 into the newly created iCloud account?

I guess, just export them as archives (Export under file in address book), then import it to your other iCloud.

It's all a bit fussy and messy, but I managed to sort it, thanks very much for your help!

When I created the new Apple ID (for me and my girlfriend to share, with groups for me and her contacts seperatley) and imported my achieve in Address Book it really didn't work very well at all, and didn't create the groups, it dumped them into one big list which we defintely wanted to avoid.

I stopped iClouding contacts from the Perferences on the shard iCloud accounts and started again. I then just copied and pasted into new groups which again didn't work perfectly. It took a bit of messing around but it's sorted now.

My iPhone currently has lots of groups in it, but I don't really care to be honest, I am only viewing my own one so it's OK.

I am not going to bothered with Calender, that will be a world of pain. I am just going to share my personal iCloud Calender with my girlfriend, that should work fine 🙂 I hope...

Yeah, that's basically the probelm. With iCal, it's possible to share calendars. But with address book, there's no sharing, at least I never found one. So that's why I use this work around. I hope it'll work out for you. Have fun!
