Missing iCloud Confirmation Email

When I try to activate iCloud on iPad or iPhone or MacBook, I never get that email from apple for confirmation. What can I do about it? Same with Facetime!

A little trick I tried with gmail that worked was to use a pseudo address. Gmail lets you add "+anything" to your email address so I updated my apple I'd to myaddress+apple@gmail.com. Gmail will still direct the email to myaddress@gmail.com and apple thought it was a new address and promptly sent the verification email that I wasn't getting with just myaddress@gmail.com

Last week I scheduled a call with apple support and they called this morning, the guy says he had never heard about this problem. I e=read him many replies in this thread and he says surely this would be a bigger issue if this were really the case either related to gmail addresses, or existing accounts not being able to verify.

So he transferred me up to an escalation tech who knew exactly what the issue is, he said he has been dealing exclusively with this issue since last week.

Let me try and walk you through this as quickly and easily as possible using my information as an example. (will not provide actual email address so I dont get spammed, but you should be able to figure things out)

Years ago when I setup my itunes account you didn't have to use an email as your apple id. So my apple ID used to be jplottcrs ... when they required you to use an email for the appleID i used jplottcrs@gmail.com (which was also the primary on my other apple id account)

So he had me log in to both accounts, the old one was showing as verified, the new one was not. Well you can't have 2 accounts with the same primary email. So he had me change my email on the jplottcrs@gmail.com to another email (he said a dummy email would work too because that account is not going to be used).

Then he had me log into the jplottcrs apple ID, there is a button that says something like "set appleID to match the primary email address"... i clicked this, and voila!

Now all i had to do was log out of itunes and log back in on my PC, then on the ipad i had to go into settings, store and log out, log back in. Then go into iclould and delete the account, then create it again.

Now i'm up and running.

I told him i'd spread the word... so hopefully this fixes things for some or all of you. The tech was awesome and he said that the problem is very common and happened when apple switched from using the apple ID as anything, to requiring it to be setup as an email address.

I was having the same problem but I found a solution. I went to https://appleid.apple.com/en_US/ and clicked on "Not sure if you have an Apple ID?" I found out that I had three Apple ID's, two of which had the same email address as primary. I changed the primary email address on the old account to an alternative email address, verified that email account, logged out of the old apple ID, logged into my main Apple ID, requested to verify my original email account (the one I couldn't verify earlier) and I got a response immediately. Now all three of my Apple ID's are linked to different email accounts. I wish I could merge them all, or at least delete the other 2, but at least my primary account is linked to my primary email address, and with it all my itunes songs, apps, etc.

Hope this helps someone!

Can't get it to work with my main email-address. My main email is not a Google address, but it does use Google Apps (which shouldn't matter).

What I found out was that I had another account which was connected to my old Gmail-address - why that should matter I don't know. For good measure I reset the password for that one and tried to "Manage Account" - and I get "Unknown Error", don't care about that account and since I cannot edit it anyway, there's nothing I can do.

Just gotta say: Wow what a wonderful service this is! Really - nothing works for me, I've tried all the suggestions in this thread and everything stops at "Unknown Error" or simply "nothing happens at all".

I SOLVED IT!

Thank you all for the comments and for the various ideas on how to solve it. Based on your suggestions I solved this out for me - and here is how:

I had a AppleID in use under my Gmail-address, both as login name and as primary email address. And never got a confirmation for the Gmail-adress. And I figured out that I allready used the same email for another AppleID, whe I used the Gmail-Adress as the primary one BUT a custom user name for login. It seems like the sign-up process with AppleID allows to register with a email adress allready used, as long as you have a custom user name tied to the other existing account. The inout it validated against the username only, not against the existence of the email address in the entire database.

So how did I solved this? I replaced the Gmail-adress in my primary account to a spare email adress - and got a confirmation instantly. Then I used the AppleID.apple.com to validate if I already have an account and found out that I have the one with the custom user name. I then also replaced the Gmail-adress with a spare one and updated the account. Then I changed the email and the original account again - tata! - it worked, I got an instant confirmation. Seem like this process removed the non-working email completely from the DB. Now I can use my original login (and Gmail-adress) for all Apple stuff.

THANKS!

Now, Apple - hire me for the Genius Bar!

I don't understand. It's as if there are different servers at apple that have different information.

I changed my email address to a temporary one. It verified. Try to change it back, says it's in use. I go to the link to find my ID, enter name, email addresses, it finds ANOTHER email address.

I sign in with the new apple ID and it doesn't show any email addresses other than the new primary.

Glad I own an old ipod. If this keeps up, I won't be buying a new iphone. this is worse than Microsoft.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their input, I solved this problem in 5 minutes! As above don't try to set up your iCloud account with a gmail or googlemail account (same thing) they just don't seem to work. We then edited the icloud account so that it is set up with the hotmail account instead of gmail and signed in with a hotmail account. Easy! Confirmation/verification email was in the hotmail account in seconds. And as they say, the rest is history!
