this doesn't seem to work as I get an error telling me the incoming server is incorrect, are you sure this is the right address?

I don't know what casues this problem but I assure you, no matter what this will fix it:

1-Start by removing your account from all devices including iPads, iPhones and iPods

2-Go to iforgot.apple.com and reset your password, make sure you use authentication reset and not the email reset as you won't be able to recieve emails!

3-Reset your password to something shorter than 12 digits.

4-Log back in on al devices with new password.

any questions, feel free to ask.

Don't forget to upgrade your iDevices to iOS 5.0.1 if you haven't already. It's a real problem-solver :)

I got the same issue here, but I also use Sparrow and I can read my mail from the me.com mail in it.

Ditto. For the past week or so, iPhone & iPad keep asking for me for correct iCloud password. I supply it, get all 3 check marks verifying. And then the scenario repeats a couple hours later. I tried changing the (@mac.com) password to one with the pattern aaaaaa99AA but that does not solve the problem.

I've stopped having the problem - just mysteriously was fine one day. I'd be patient -

What you all need to do:

    change apple password first.

Then go to www.me.com to log into your mobile me account using the new apple password. Then it says you can use your icloud account www.icloud.com.

On your mobile devices delete the account. And then create it again using the new apple password.

When that is done... it should be fixed.

    Change it where?

First of all, I do NOT have an iCloud account. But Keychain claims I have some strange password in an "Account" of 59752470. And its "Name:" is my dotMac email address. There was an absolutely huge collection of ASCII characters in the "Show password:" filed earlier today, 44characters long. Even though I use 1Password for 99.9% of needed passwords, I certainly never created that one. I cleared out the 44 characters and entered my own, previous password. It now (several hours later) has a 40 character 'password' in it (and apparently, one of them is a 'carriage return' or 'line feed' since it takes two lines to display the entire 40 characters)! And I have no idea what the 59752470 represents.

Everything else in Keychain that is in any way connected with Apple has the exact, same password. Same one works on my old iPhone (not iOS 5 capable, BTW). And, again, iCloud is not yet in use or wanted.

I also deleted my single email account and rebuilt it this afternoon. Worked fine until I quit Mail and opened it a few hours later.

    change it in itunes.

This topic is about passwords in icloud. Since you don`t have an icloud account... i am not sure what the problem is ?

As noted, I have been asked for an iCloud password.

    Nevermind.

I get the same message often that my password is not recognized, yet I get mail at times.  I have checked my email password and found it has changed by the length of one character. This is weird since I have been getting mail.  I change the password to the correct one, and I still get mail.  What is going on?
