iPod Touch 4g IOS5 does not resume audio books

Updated iPod Touch 4g to IOS5, now Audio Books do not resume where I left off. When going between audio books, they always start from the beginning, they do not resume where I left off. This was working fine in 4.3.5.

Options in each file is set to Resume when looking with iTunes 10.l5, yet they don't resume.

Seems to me this is basic iPod functionality that should just work.

iPod touch, Other OS, iOS 5.0

You are not supposed to have this setting in Music application as there is an option to enable or disable "Remember playback position" for each mp3 or m4b file via iTunes (Get Info -> Options). I've noticed that for Audiobooks in iTunes 10.5.this option is enabled and locked.

What is interesting that playback of Audiobook on iPhone can be resumed after playing any other file if it is controled by iTunes 10.5, but doesn't resume if it is performed on a stand alone iPhone in Music app.

Conclusion: Music application in IOS 5 has "Audiobook resumed playback" deficiency .

Though audiobooks are automatically set with this feature, it does not work anymore.

I've been using it for a long time, and ios5 with my 4s "broke" the feature. We're simply asking for it to return or if perhaps there was some brand new setting that had to be enabled.

No such luck yet though. At this point, all we can do is hope Apple fixes this in 5.01.

As a temporary measure (until Apple wil fix "Music" app) I would suggest to instal the free application "Audible".

After installation uou should choose "New user" option (there is no need to register) and after that choose iPod Library tab. There you will see all your audiobooks. "Audible" has a feature called "Bookmarks" and this is where you can save your current position when pausing and next time you will be able to resume your listening from the exact point.

Though I have not tried Audiobooks,I have figured out the resume problem for the Video app.In the current Itunes 10.5 and IO5 on my Ipod Touch 4g,Apple again has change something in copying videos to your device. At one time you drop a video in the Device video window in Itunes. Now you can only copy it to the device window. And now you can't drag and drop a video onto the device window and get video resume. You have to copy the video to your Itunes library and then copy it to your device, and you will then get video's to resume. Why Apple does these odd tweaks ,I will never figure out. What I would have love to have would be the brightness control in the video app, instead of always going back to settings.Video is the only time I change the brightness.

Your method partially works for Audiobooks as well.

When an Audiobook firstly copied to iTunes library and after that either dragged to iPhone / iPod or synched it can resume from the last stop when you return to your audiobook after playing other files.

However, there is one limitation - your Audiobook MUST have chapters. If it is one large not chapter-divided M4B file the "Music" app can't remember the last stop.

There is a PC program to make chapters for audiobooks called Chapter Master

Installing Audible and accessing the iPod AudioBooks library actually fixed the whole issue.

I suspect Audible re-wrote the file that remembers audiobook positions, and fixed the original file that was problematic.

I have now uninstalled Audible and AudioBooks from the Music app now resume properly.

I installed Audible, started a couple of different audiobooks from my iPod audiobook library, switched between both a couple of times.

Then from the Music app, audiobooks resumed from those same positions and now continue to resume where I left off, now that Audible is uninstalled.

The Audible suggestions inadvertently corrected the iOS 5 issue of resuming audiobooks. Thanks

Botrax,

Your statement is incorrect. I have Audible installed on my iPhone 4 and Music app still can not resume an interrupted Audiobook. Resuming audiobooks was working seemlessly under IOS 4.

To prove the point try play an audiobook, which doesn't have chapters -> stop it -> play any MP3 file from any album -> try to come back to your audiobook -> it startd from beginning.
