iMessage picture

How does one change the picture icon in iMessage?

As I know, iMessage takes the info from your address book (as it synchronizes it with apple servers), so you should change your picture or your contact's pictures there.

Unfortinately, this doesn't work since my wife and I are using a single appleID for everything except her email and imessage ( which uses her ID). when we switch it to her id to get her icon, it changes it all across the board so when i log into iCloud it shows her name and image, when I log into iChat, it shows her name and her image. I've read plenty of other ppl having the same problem as me. I would have thought it would be reasonable that if you log in using another account for imessage it would use that image.

We use a single appleID as well. On imessage you can set the details (including photo) under Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select Contacts and under My Info select the contact that you want to use. If you don't select one it will default to the account holder.

The same thing happened to me! except someone else's because i signed up with their's than i changed to my new account..... now i don't hav it at all cuz i deleted his contact in my adress book....

Easy; add pictures to your contacts, using your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You'll then see your contacts pictures in iMessage on your Mac (if using Mtn Lion) or your iPad (but not on your iPhone).

My picture from the adress book is a flower and the picture from imessage is another. I'm new with mac so I dont know how to change my imessage picture!!

Ah. Could I trouble you for a little more info @arianaloor? Apologies if these appear to be stupid questions:

- as well as your Mac, do you own any iOS devices? (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch?)

- are you running Mtn Lion OSX 10.8, or Lion OSX 10.7 with the iMessage Beta?

- are you syncing your contacts via iCoud?

- are you using the same Apple ID for your Mac Logon and iMessage account?

With your Contact image in Address Book (which is now called Contacts if you're running Mtn Lion) being different from your iMessage picture, it sounds like you may have 2 Apple IDs, which is not unusual (I have 2, one which I use for iTunes and the other for iCloud). I'm happy to help further, just need the above clues to help me sort it out for you ;O).
