My iCloud is finally working!  (yay)

Can't really say it's anything I did per se.  I think Apple finally got their systems and servers working.  I had re-set my Apple ID passwork several time (once even had the Apple folks do it!), but when I enterred that password from my iPhone and iPad, it wouldn't recognize it (though the password worked on my computer for iTunes).

Eventually, one of the times I re-set my password, it just worked across all my devices.  I did re-set it on from iTunes on my computer, rather than via one of the i-devices.

Maybe I should have waited a week or so before getting the new phone!  Oh well.

Still NOT working here.  However, I did find out a work-around in one of the other threads.  I set up my mail (and notes as well) as a standard imap email account, and quick synching both through the iCloud account set up.  All other features have been working without fail, so this works for me.

When is Apple Going to admit there is a IMAP and SMTP mail server / LDAP problem?  Almost everyone I speak with has problems either sending or receiving mail on their MAC with an icloud account.  That same account works fine on IOS devices or from the web interface.  I have read countless Apple Support Forums on this issue and almost everyone has some sort of a "workaround" that works for some people but not others.... I have had hit and miss results with all the different "workarounds" depending on the day or time... then boom... authentication fails again out of the blue for either sending or receiving.  We all love apple products for a level of quality and a certain experience that "just works".  But this iCloud Email system is NOT working correctly.

If anyone has read anything or called apple support and has a definite fix or knows they have admitted to an issue and working on it? please say something.

I've been having horrendous problems since yesterday (24 Oct) only. iCloud mail et al. was all fine before, and syncing seamlessly across MBP (Lion), ipad 2 and iPhone 4. Then I got a message pop up with email follow-up on the mac laptop saying my (totally compatible, new as of last week, alphanumeric) password was invalid and needed to be reset. I did this. And then I was locked totally out of mail, and intermittently (via iCloud on the MBP) from iWork. Totally screwing up my work-flow for the day, and leaving me thinging I might have lost some key dox.

After hours of rooting around in the discussions online I had tried everything suggested (including all the fiddling around with clearing the keychain info., the editing imap/smtp addresses etc.) except resetting Apple password again. Today I again wiped the iCloud accounts on MBP and iDevices, re-set a new password via Apple website, then reset up the iCloud (in the iCloud sys. prefs. pane, plus separately aftterwards in iCal). This seems (fingers crossed) now to be working.

I hope this may help someone (i.e. completely clear out iCloud then reset password via Apple, then reinstall iCloud), but there must be some sort of accounts glitch at Apple for this password/account management snafu to be affecting so many people. It would be nice if the iCloud status page could acknowledge it - I was feeling very lonely with my problem late last night...

Same problem - really annoying.  Staff in Apple store were at a loss; call centre staff did everything possible to get rid of me.  Promised to send a copper-bottomed fix by email and in fact sent me an introduction to installing iTunes.  Very disappointed because Apple had a blemish-free record with me until now.  I hope the problem is at their end and fixes itself imminently.  Definitely agree that there should be some mention of it somewhere on Apple or iCloud website.

    1. gourmetlou has posted in a number of these threads that you need to go through Express Lane:

"The only solution to this error is by calling iCloud support via express lane for iOS5.  Once you get a representative, asked them to escalate you to the mobile me division.  Only senior tech advisors can help.  It seems the error is being caused by an aliases issue.  Dont waist your time changing your settings.  It wont fix it.

They need to reset your account and this will remove the user name/password/smtp server/ unknow user errors you are receiving!"

    I think this is correct.

    2. I had a call out and today, 15 days after the problem began, iCloud email started working again on my iPad and iPhone (after deleting and reentering my iCloud info). I do now have the problem that many other people have reported that push email isn't working but at least my password is being recognised.

    I have the same problem.

I had the same problem - I had changed my icloud password and my access to icloud on my computer was fine - but on my iphone and ipad - my password was not being recognized. I went into my iphone icloud settings and turned all off (mail, ical, etc) and reenter my icloud password - then turned everything back on - and it worked. Who knows....

As everyone else, I was having the exact same issue as well.  For some reason my Apple ID / iCloud password was not being recognized on my iPhone, but it was fine on my mac.  Therefore when I attempted to install new apps directly on my phone, they would be stuck in "waiting..." mode.  After restarting my phone, I was told the install had failed and to try again, but it would never work.  I was no longer prompted to enter my Apple ID password.  It seemed the entire process had crashed on my iPhone.

After attempting to login to this discussion to add my 2 cents to this thread, I was navigated to a password-change page and prompted to change my Apple ID password as it had supposedly expired.  I have run into this a few times before.  Apparently your password expires after a certain amount of time. However, I am only ever prompted to change the expired password when logging in to Apple Discussions.  My Apple ID and password continue to work for iTunes without a hiccup.

Does anyone see this as a possible culprit?  Could the expired password cause the iCloud password issue?  Does anyone think we should be informed on a universal usage scale that our password has supposedly become expired and then prompted to change it?

    Just a thought.

FYI.  After updating iCloud recently released, I was able to login without issue and so far so good.  I didn't call tech support, turn anything on or off, etc.  I updated iTunes and iCloud on my system and I'm golden.

FYI - after changing my expired password to a new password, I re-logged in to my Apple ID account in iTunes and on my iPhone and my iCloud account on my iPhone, and everything works again.  Downloaded and installed a new app as a test and it prompted me for my new password.  After typing it in, I had no issues.  It all works again.
