Q: Keynote remote app no longer working with keynote for ipad

noticed after upgrading that the keynote remote does not pair with keynote for the ipad.  Any suggestion on a resolution or anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have exactly the same problem, pairing with WiFi and Bluetooth worked perfectly before IOS 5 upgrade, now even my Mac won't connect with the ipad or iphone in keynote.

Very frustrating as this a key app for me when presenting.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I didn't realize until I went to a class to lecture in front of a couple hundred students that what worked on Friday no longer worked on Monday.  (I upgraded to iOS 5 over the weekend.)  My iPad with lecture slides was plugged in 25 feet away.  I finally recruited a student to tap the iPad screen when I needed the next slide.  A nightmare.  What is usually slick and seamless was a wreck.

Here's my deal.  My remote app works fine at home where my iPod Touch and iPad are on the same wifi network.  At school they're on different networks for some reason.  Bluetooth doesn't work anywhere.  So Apple needs to find this bug and fix it.  I can't believe whoever is responsible for this didn't test this out before they released iOS 5.  Sheesh.

I too have the same problem others have had connecting via bluetooth.

I use my iPod Touch to connect to my iPad.

And, like Crankfield, I have been unfortunate to discover this in the process of giving a lecture!

This is a big deal apple!  In lecture environments, the only way it works for many of us to use the iPad for presentations is to have some sort of remote control.

As the guy on SNL likes to say, "Fix it!... Fix it!.... Just Fix it!"

I was having similar issues. Tried using Keynote Remote from my new iPhone 4s. Won't link to my iPad 2. Tried Keynote Remote from my old iPhone 3Gs with upgrade to iOS 5. Remote links instantly to my iPad 2 from iPhone 3Gs over wifi. Contacted Apple, they advised restore of my iPhone 4s. Did that and remote still does not link. Doesn't seem to be an iOS 5 issue for me, but more of a prob with new iPhone 4s perhaps.

Same problem.  Upgraded to IOS5 on my iPad and Remote Keynote app no longer can connect to my Macbook Pro using Bluetooth.  Apple, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS.   You guys seem to be falling into the trap of untested  software, a pit that will ultimately be your demise.   I used to take pride in Apple software always working....the first time.  Now I don't know what to think.

Here's a fix from another discussion.  It worked for me.

    Alex G writes:

    1. Launch keynote on one device and the remote on the other as you normall would.

    2. Find another app that bluetooth links ipad and iphone (I used 'pictransfer light'). Install on both devices and launch on both devices. Follow the promt to get a bluetooth sync.

    3. Double push the home button both devices to pull up the multi-tasking and open keynote and keynote remote on the relevant devices.

    4. In keynote, go to settings; advances; remote. You should now be able to get the remote to link (you may, on the device running the remote, need to hit settings and then 'new keynote link'.

This works!!  Why can't Keynote work as well as a free app??

Spot on. This is precisely what happened to me. Now I'm due to speak at an Embassy in London in two days with no remote for the slides. I realise that some apps and technology go out of date, but not after eight weeks.

Perfect !  Thanks - i thought it was strange that the iPad bluetooth logo wasn't turning on when it was supposedly 'searching for a remote'.  Makes perfect sense to HELP IT search by already linking it through another app connecting through bluetooth.  However, this makes it ever the more apparent that there is a bug with this app and the OS, when it sounds like it used to work. Hopefully a fix will come soon from Apple. Thanks Crankfield and Alex G

Thanks for passing on Alex G's fix - it worked for me too. However, this is yet another problem introduced by iOS 5 and it is high time Apple did something about all of them!

Good fix--just need to find an application to link it with.  I guess I can download pictransfer light and then delete it when the keynote remote is linked with my iPad as I don't need pictransfer.

I have the same problem with Bluetooth not connecting my iPad2 to my iPhone, but the wifi still works fine. I am using IOS5 on the iPad but use IOS4 on my iPhone 3G. Everything worked fine with iPad on IOS4...until I upgraded. I hope Apple fixes this soon!

I got the pictranfer app for my Ipad, but what I really need to do is use my Ipad to operate my Mac.   Any suggestions?  I have a big presentation coming up next Friday and need to be walking around the room as I lecture and not chained to my computer.  Thanks in advance!  BTW I'm not a technical person so if you have a suggestion I appreciate as many details as you can provide!
